So many of you asked about my Gojo Satoru sketch, and I'm so excited to share a bit about how I approach drawing this incredible Jujutsu Kaisen character! It's one of my favorite pieces, truly. When I started this pencil sketch, my main goal was to capture his iconic presence, especially those intense eyes behind the blindfold or glasses, and that subtle smirk that always hints at his confidence. First off, getting the basic proportions for his head and upper chest is crucial. I always start with light construction lines to define the overall shape of the head, then place the eyes, nose, and mouth. For Gojo, his face is quite symmetrical but has strong features. Don't press too hard with your pencil at this stage – you'll want to erase these later! Next, let's talk about the hair. His spiky hair is a signature element. I build it up in layers, starting with the main flow and then adding individual strands to give it that dynamic, almost gravity-defying look. Observing reference images helps immensely here to understand the direction and volume. It's not just spikes; there's a certain wild elegance to it. Then come the eyes. Whether you're drawing him with his Six Eyes exposed or partially covered, they need to convey his power. For this particular sketch, I focused on the intensity. Even with a simple pencil sketch, you can create depth by varying your line weight and shading. The subtle smirk is also key – it’s not a full grin, but a slight upturn at the corner of his lips that communicates so much about his personality. Finally, the details on his defined neck muscles and collarbone area really bring the upper chest to life. These small anatomical details add realism and strength to the character. I used cross-hatching and blending techniques to add shadows and define the muscle structure. Remember, patience is your best friend when it comes to detail work! To wrap it up, I always suggest using a reference, but don't just copy it. Try to understand the forms and then interpret them in your own style. What materials do I use? Just a good set of graphite pencils (2H for construction, HB, 2B, 4B for shading) and a kneaded eraser.
