Biggest advice: Open a High Yield Savings Acct!!!

The biggest advice I’d give to anyone trying to save money is make sure you have a HYSA, not a traditional savings. In my opinion, there’s no point having a traditional savings when you’re earning maximum a couple dollars a year. Let’s get our money to do some work for us and earn some passive income!!

I use Marcus and have shared my referral to friends so they can get some extra cash!! Let me know if you have any questions! I love sharing my financial tips ☺️

Some quick FAQs:

Is the interest taxable? Yes, you get a 1099-INT at year end and report it on your tax return. My thought is it’s tax on additional money earned. I’m still at a net gain after tax so why not?

Can I still make withdrawals? Yes, double check with your bank but it’s not like a CD where money is locked up for a time period.

How do I create an account? Simple!! Submit an application online and transfer your money to start earning interest!

This is not financial advice for anyone specific, more just general sharing of knowledge!

... Read moreThe question of what “online-only” really means for a savings account is something I get asked a lot, and it's a valid one! When I first considered moving my money from a traditional bank to a High-Yield Savings Account (HYSA), the idea of not having a physical branch felt a little strange. But after diving in, I can tell you my experience has been overwhelmingly positive, and it's definitely a modern “life hack” for your finances. So, what exactly does the “online only” nature entail from a user's perspective? Essentially, it means your bank operates entirely digitally. There are no brick-and-mortar branches you can walk into. All your transactions, account management, and customer service interactions happen through their website or mobile app. This setup is precisely why online HYSAs can offer those incredible Annual Percentage Yields (APYs), like the 4.10% I've seen in my earnings details. Without the massive overhead of maintaining physical branches, these banks can pass those savings on to us, the customers, in the form of higher interest rates. For me, seeing my money grow significantly more than the paltry cents I got from my old savings account was a huge motivator. It's about letting your money truly do some work for you and earn passive income. From a practical standpoint, managing an online HYSA is surprisingly seamless. I do everything from my phone or computer: checking my balance, transferring funds, setting up automatic deposits. The mobile apps are usually very intuitive and user-friendly. While you can't walk up to a teller, most online banks offer robust customer support through chat, email, or phone. I've found their responsiveness to be just as good, if not better, than waiting in line at a branch. It takes a little getting used to, but once you're comfortable with the digital interface, it's incredibly convenient. Of course, there are a few things to keep in mind. Since there's no physical branch, you can't deposit cash directly. For me, this isn't an issue as I rarely deal with cash, but if you do, you'd typically deposit it into your primary checking account (which might be at a traditional bank) and then transfer it electronically to your HYSA. Similarly, for large cash withdrawals, you'd transfer funds back to your linked checking account first. It adds an extra step, but for the higher returns, it's a small trade-off. Another aspect some people worry about is security. Let me reassure you: reputable online HYSAs are just as secure as traditional banks. They are FDIC-insured, meaning your deposits are protected up to the legal limit, and they employ advanced encryption and security measures to protect your data. It’s definitely not something to lose sleep over. In my experience, embracing the “online only” nature of my HYSA has been a fantastic decision. It empowered me to take control of my savings and watch them grow in a way I never thought possible. If you’re looking to maximize your earnings and are comfortable with digital banking, don't let the lack of a physical branch deter you. As the sentiment goes, “YOU CAN DO IT!” It's a smart financial move that genuinely helps you build wealth.
