Microsoft has revealed a new vision of Windows for the next 5 years. Through the "Windows 2030 Vision" series of videos pointing out that the future of operating systems will shift from mouse and keyboard use to voice command and natural interaction through AI.

By David Weston, Microsoft's vice president of Enterprise & Security, stated that the new Windows model will feature "multi-mode" or Multimodal operation, meaning that the machine can "see what we look at, hear what we hear" and can talk to us like a personal assistant with a deep understanding of context.

He also says that by 2030, using a mouse or typing commands will be as ancient as typing commands on DOS for Gen ‐ Z people right now. Microsoft aims for AI to work, or Agetic AI to replace humans in areas such as Teams, Email management, or even corporate security, which will help real people focus on more complex tasks.

Despite this idea looking high-tech and exciting, many voices remain uncertain, particularly privacy, AI reliability, and the ease of voice commanding in real workspaces. Microsoft itself has been criticized for speeding up the launch of AI features, such as the still-controversial Recall case.

However, the company is also moving forward to invest heavily in AI through big deals like OpenAI and Inflection, all of which could become the turning point of a new generation of Windows and UX that we may actually see in the near future.
