Raw power is left, but upgrade the jelly power again. 🍋
AMD officially launched FidelityFX SDK 2.0 and FSR 4.0.2 at Gamescom 2025. It's a big step forward for AMD to pave its way into a new era of AI-powered games and Machine Learning to help process images, or as many call it, Neural Rendering. This cycle doesn't come as a small update, but it's called an overhaul, so that game developers can build on it more easily and support the next generation of hardware.
.
A highlight that many people are interested in is FSR 4.0.2, the latest version of the AI-based upscaling technology, which allows images to be sharper than 3 types of FSR. Whether it reduces ghosting, when objects move, keeps details of particle effects more realistic, and makes images more static and stable. It also supports new versions of Unreal Engine 5 plugins, and has an easy-to-modify API. Developers can move from FSR 3 to FSR 4 almost without solving a lot of code.
.
More importantly, the automatic update system through the AMD Software driver: Adrenalin Edition means that games that used to use FSR 3.1 can be upgraded to FSR 4 immediately without waiting for a new game patch. Games on FSR 3.1.4 can also be updated to the future ML Frame Generation, which can be called the FSR to become a central platform that is ready to expand.
.
Even now, anyone wants to try FSR 4.0.2 will need a Radeon RX 9000 Series card or more, but AMD still doesn't leave old users because on SDK 2.0, there is still a 3.1.5 FSR that supports Shader Model 6.2 or more cards, and many people can't wait. FSR Redstone, the next generation of Neural Rendering technology that AMD intends to hit the full-body NVIDIA DLSS, says that the graphics card competition is going to be more fun than ever.
