Microsoft is set to release a new app called Microsoft 365. Companion comes in as a lightweight auxiliary. The eye-catching point is that these apps do not come to load themselves, but are installed automatically with Microsoft 365 updates, and when the boot is finished, it is ready to run immediately without pressing anything. All this works only on Windows 11.

Companion apps are designed to provide instant access to frequently required information from Taskbar. There are three major apps: People, File Search, and Calendar, which run through Microsoft Graph to extract user-related information directly - contacts, job files, or meeting schedules - eliminating the need to open a full Office or Teams every time you need a little check.

For example, People Companion helps find colleague information, view the organization tree, and instantly contact via email or Teams. File Search Companion makes it more convenient to find files from OneDrive, SharePoint, Outlook, or Teams, with filters and file preview options before opening. Calendar Companion takes a quick look at the calendar or meets Teams immediately from Taskbar.

All three apps have been testing in the Insider group since the beginning of 2025, and now it's gradually released to the general user this August. By default, the app will open with the system every time, but if anyone doesn't like it, it can close the auto-launch in the app's Settings.
