Microsoft warned users around the world that continuing to use Windows 10 after running out of support could become a cyber disaster because this version of the operating system has now ended support for more than 10 days. Although some users have already chosen to upgrade to Extended Security Updates (ESU) or are not interested in updating, Microsoft stressed that staying on an expired system is an easy channel for hackers to enter.

In its Windows for Business blog, the company stated that running out of supports meant not just obsolete software, but literally running out of protection, which Microsoft itself did not mention the ESU or Microsoft Defender programs in its articles, pointing out that systems that were not updated consistently, even with temporary fixes, were inadequate. According to an internal report, 90% of Ransomware attacks were caused by unmanaged devices and did not set up security properly.

Microsoft says that the use of old systems like Windows 10 poses a number of weaknesses, both device security gaps, risk of monitoring and standards, access control vulnerabilities, and data management problems, all of which are opportunities for hackers to break through the system more easily. The company warns that hackers don't have to try much, just wait for users to open a small box.

Microsoft recommends organizations monitor internal systems, prioritize high-risk devices, reinforce temporary precautions, and plan to move to newer systems ASAP, to avoid damage.
