Microsoft gave up the way to delete Copilot. 🍋
After we previously presented a way to remove Copilot from the machine, Microsoft most recently started testing a new policy that officially allows system administrators to uninstall Microsoft Copilot from the machine under corporate supervision. This policy is called RemoveMicrosoftCopilotApp and started in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7535 on Dev and Beta channels.

It is considered another milestone that enhances the flexibility of device management in-house organizations, especially organizations that want to control AI implementation in line with information and security policies.

Uninstalling Copilot is done through central management tools such as Microsoft Intune, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or Group Policy settings. The key condition is that Microsoft Copilot apps must not be installed by the user and must not be triggered within the last 28 days. This policy supports Windows 11 Enterprise, Pro and Education versions.

Although the administrator can delete Copilot from the machine, the operation will be one-time, not permanently blocked. If the user needs to use it in the future, the app can still be reinstalled.

In addition, the RemoveMicrosoftCopilotApp policy will only apply to Microsoft Copilot that is a free app attached to Windows. The Microsoft 365 Copilot part that is a money-losing version will remain intact.

The problem is that one of the conditions for using this GPO policy is that Copilot has not been activated for the past 28 days. In practice, Copilot is often set to display automatically every time a user logs in and can also be easily run through key shortcuts, resulting in a relatively difficult entry to the terms of such a policy that it is hardly practical in many cases.
