Microsoft closes billion-dollar investment deal in Thailand 🍋

Microsoft announced a plan to invest in Thailand worth more than $1 billion (about 3.2-3 $60 billion) during 2026-2028 to develop cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, building on a partnership with the Thai public sector that has been in place since 2023 (PM), with the goal of enhancing the country's potential to become the region's technology hub.

This investment spans many dimensions, especially the development of a domestic Data Center to support the continued growth of cloud and AI. The infrastructure will be designed to be modern and sustainable, use clean energy, and manage resources efficiently, as well as collaborate with major Thai partners such as Gulf, AIS, CP, and True IDC to build a strong digital ecosystem and help drive the domestic economy.

In the field of digital security, Microsoft works with government agencies to develop standards for the safe use of data and AI. One of the key projects is TH2OECD, an AI system that helps analyze Thai law and compare it with international standards to prepare countries on the global stage, including supporting Thai developers through funding and cloud credit from US agencies to create AI solutions for the business sector.

Another important goal is to improve personnel skills. In the past, Microsoft helped over 2 million Thais access AI learning. It also has plans to build on training programs with government agencies such as the Workforce Department to further upgrade their workforce skills.

According to Microsoft, the implementation of AI in developed countries is significantly higher than in developing countries, reflecting Thailand's opportunity to accelerate the adoption of AI. This investment is therefore a milestone in laying the foundation of both technology, security and personnel to enhance the country's competitiveness in the long run.
