Copilot is gone, but AI isn't going anywhere.
After Microsoft promised to improve Windows 11, one of the key issues in that announcement was the reduction of Copilot's role. The latest Insider update was actually taken out, but the truth is that it was not done, because only Copilot's "name" and display were removed, but its AI capabilities remained virtually complete.
.
An obvious example is that in the Insider version of the Notepad app, Microsoft removed the Copilot button from the toolbar and replaced it with a common writing icon. But when pressed in, it still found the original AI feature, whether it was rewriting, summarizing text, toning or formatting content. At the same time, on the setup page, the word "AI features" was renamed "Advanced features," with the option to disable the user.
.
The change clearly reflects that Microsoft is not removing AI from Windows 11 as many understand it, but rather reducing Copilot's memory image brand-wise, and trying to integrate these capabilities more in harmony with the system itself, rather than pushing it into a separate feature as it did in the past.
.
But the approach generated a lot of user criticism, as many previously expected that "role reduction" would mean taking AI seriously away from the system, not just renaming it or hiding it under another menu, resulting in the impression that this improvement did not address user needs as well.
