Almost fell asleep but came back 🚨

It is well known how sensitive electronics and appliances are to power surges, especially computers that, if they encounter a strong power surge, have the chance to crash. Although the newer PSUs have protection systems, this case must be said to be many times heavier than usual, because it involves lightning and high current flowing into the ground system of the building, causing severe computer damage.

This happened after a customer brought the remains of a computer to a computer repairman to assess the condition, after the machine was damaged by a severe power surge during a thunderstorm, which the condition inside was called almost unrecognizable. The wires melted next to the motherboard, several devices burned down, while the Router inside the store was hit by a burst that splashed several meters away.

According to the technician, the incident is thought to have been caused by lightning near the building, or by lightning protection on the building, causing high current to flow through the ground system, with the assumption that the building's lightning protection or grounding system may have problems, resulting in damage to virtually all electrical equipment inside the building, including two PCs that collapsed to cocoa and then a fire.

But in the midst of all the damage, there was an incredible piece of equipment that survived, the RTX 3070.

When the machine was turned on, the mechanic found that the RTX 3070 card had black soot stains on it, heat damage and melting cooling kit, as well as capaciter debris from the exploding motherboard on the card, but the surprising thing was that after checking the circuit, no heavy damage or short circuits were found as clear as they should have been.

Afterwards the mechanic begins a full resuscitation process, both washing soot, carbon stains and dirt that may carry electricity off the board, as well as using a "boil" method to help leach deep-seated stains off the circuit board body, before baking moisture repellent in a specialized incubator to prevent repeated damage.

Finally, despite the external cooling kit being almost unusable, the main GPU chip body of the RTX 3070 has survived incredibly well, with technicians expecting a high-voltage stroke through the power supply sector device or motherboard perhaps taking most of the shocks instead, leaving the GPU itself not as severely damaged as other devices inside the unit.

However, this screen has not yet been reused, but has been returned to the owner for proof of insurance claims, and for further technical investigation, it is another case that shows that lightning and power surges can damage computers more severely than many people think, and the damage may not always come directly from lightning, but may flow into ground systems, wires or even LAN lines.
