Move from top right to bottom right. 🍋
Microsoft is facing a wave of discontent from Excel users. After a floating Copilot button has been added to the page, it appears in the lower right corner of the desktop, and there is currently no option to hide or turn off the permanent display.
.
This added Copilot button will display options such as Research with Copilot, Create a table and Teach me something with Excel. Click on the Copilot icon or the menu that appears will open the Copilot panel.
.
Although the user can right-click on such a button and select the Dock, this function does not actually hide the button from the screen, because it only moves the button to the edge of the screen. It can also call back the Copilot panel when clicking Use, causing many users to see that the button still interferes with the desktop.
.
Several users have commented through Excel's Feedback portal, stating that placing the Copilot button in this location makes the sheet page look visually disturbing, obscuring the data in the table, and creating screen capture time problems for use or sending checks; some also indicate that the button goes over key areas of the sheet, including interfering with slider clicks in some cases.
.
Most commentary sounds require Microsoft to add an option to hide the Copilot button or move the icon back onto the top Ribbon or toolbar as it were, since some users do not want to use Copilot in Excel and view such a forced button display as disturbing the user experience rather than enhancing convenience.
.
However, it now remains to be seen how Microsoft will respond to such criticism, and whether options for hiding the Copilot button or repositioning the display in Excel will be added in the future.
