Unitree released the GD01, a giant Mecha robot that humans can actually sit up to, reminiscent of the sci-fi movie image many once dreamed of. Even in reality, it may not yet be available on conventional roads, it is considered one of the drivable robots closest to that dream image.

The GD01 is almost 9 feet tall, or about 274 centimeters, with a total rider weight of about 500 kilograms, with a cockpit room in the middle of the torso for humans to climb up and sit down. In the launch clip, Xingxing Wang, CEO and founder of Unitree, went up to demonstrate himself that the robot is not just a display model or a concept on paper.

The highlight that made the GD01 so talked about was the ability to walk on two legs and four legs. The puppet can lean down and immediately change its motion to a spider or crab-like appearance. It also shows its strength by punching the brick-block wall with its arms down, making the image of the "civilian Mecha puppet" look closer to the truth than ever.

According to Unitree, the GD01 is a ready-to-produce manned Mecha robot, not a puppet, with a starting price of about $650,000 USD or about $20 million baht. It is now a high-tech toy for people with a budget rather than a vehicle that people buy for everyday travel.

However, while the overall picture looks as cool as it came out of anime or sci-fi movies, there are a number of questions Unitree has yet to make clear: whether the actual control system inside Cockpit, battery life, safety of use, maintenance, and whether this giant robot can be used in public areas or on the road.

So GD01 may not be able to ride Gundam to work today, but the giant robot's ride, walk, transform its mobility mode, and announce its sale is a sign that the future world as seen in the movie may be moving closer and closer to real life, with a warning from Unitree: "Please use the robot in a friendly and safe way."
