Get ready. IT's going to be a big match.
Microsoft has confirmed that the 26H2 version of Windows 11 is coming. It is now open for testing through Windows Insider and is considered a big update for Windows 11 2026.
.
By Microsoft, Windows 11 26H2 will come as an Enablement Package because it uses the same set of code basics as Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, allowing machines already running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2 to update across versions faster, smaller files, fewer restarters, and without reinstalling the entire system.
.
Another news broke out that Windows 11 26H2 will have an update package size of only about 174KB, or about 0.003% of Windows 11 24H2 upgrade files of only about 6.5GBB.
.
In other words, several features and code are rolled in through monthly updates. 26H2 acts like a new version of the activation switch with reset of the system's support life. Windows 11 Home and Pro will have 24 months of support, and Enterprise and Education will have 36 months.
.
The reason why Microsoft started talking about 26H2 earlier than usual doesn't mean that the update will leave the general user immediately faster, but rather signals for IT and corporate admins to start planning ahead, both testing apps, checking device compatibility, and preparing update policies through tools like Intune, WSUS, or Configuration Manager.
.
However, an important exception is that machines running Windows 11 26H1 cannot upgrade to 26H2 via this route because 26H1 uses a different Windows Core to 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2.
.
For the average user, if the machine is already on Windows 11, 24H2 or 25H2, the update to 26H2 is probably not very different from the typical monthly update, but for IT, this news is a sign that it is time to start preparing the Rollout plan again before being asked by the boss, "Why is the entire office not updated?"
