The MOST important thing you can do in a space is proper curtain placement. It can make or break a room. Curtains should be hung high and at least 10-12in OUTSIDE the frame. This gives the illusion of the window being larger and the room being taller.

When I first started decorating my living room, I underestimated how much curtain placement impacted the overall feel of the space. Hanging curtains just inside the window frame made everything look smaller and more cramped. Once I shifted to hanging them high — close to the ceiling — and extended the curtain rods about 10-12 inches outside the window frame, the entire room instantly felt brighter and more open. One tip I learned is to use longer curtain panels that can 'kiss the ground.' This creates a streamlined look and prevents awkward gaps between the curtain hem and floor. Adjustable tabs on curtain panels also make it easier to get the height and drape just right without complicated measurements. Besides the visual impact, hanging curtains outside the frame tricks the eye into seeing larger windows, which adds to the sense of height in rooms with standard 8-foot ceilings. I highly recommend this for anyone dealing with limited ceiling height but wanting their rooms to feel airy. On another note, swapping out outdated eyeball recessed lights can elevate your entire lighting scheme. I’m currently exploring ways to replace those fixtures with more modern, adjustable options that provide better ambiance without stress or guesswork. Making these simple updates — curtain placement and lighting — only took me moments but made a huge difference in my home’s style and comfort.
