... Read moreThe concepts of democracy and constitutional republic are often used interchangeably, but they represent fundamentally different systems of governance. Democracy, in its purest form, is often associated with majority rule where decisions are made based on the will of the majority. However, pure democracy can risk the oppression of minority groups if the majority's interests dominate unchecked. In contrast, a constitutional republic, like that of the United States, operates under the rule of law as defined by a constitution. This constitution limits the powers of the majority and protects individual rights through a system of checks and balances. The constitution ensures that even if the majority votes to restrict certain freedoms, such decisions can be challenged and overturned to prevent tyranny. The phrase “democracy means freedom” is often misunderstood. While democratic processes ensure participation, freedom is safeguarded specifically in a constitutional republic by respecting legal frameworks and minority protections. This is why America's government is defined as a constitutional republic rather than a direct democracy. Historical evidence demonstrates how majority rule without constitutional limits can lead to a form of dictatorship, sometimes referred to as the 'tyranny of the majority.' This highlights the importance of understanding that not all governance by majority is inherently free or democratic in the broader sense. In summary, America's unique system balances popular sovereignty with legal protections, ensuring that the government operates under constitutional authority rather than solely by majority vote. This distinction is critical for maintaining a free society where everyone's rights are respected regardless of shifting political majorities.

No. That's actually not how that works. In a democracy everyone votes on EVERY issue and it's majority rules. That's not what we do in America. In a republic you have people to represent people and then they vote in every issue. America is neither. America is a democratic republic meaning every vote is counted (the democratic part) to do a majority rules of who will represent us (the Republic part) This is common knowledge. A republic does not mean that your rights are protected from majority rules. In fact, if majority of our representatives rule that we shouldn't have rights that would still stand. That's the difference

Why I picked my Major
I decided my second semester of senior year that I was going to go to college. I hated the idea of more school, but knew I wanted to do more with myself than just work in a factory. My advisor suggested Supply Chain Management because the student who had previously majored in it had great success.
