I worked at Disney World.

I did the disney college program.

There are a lot of pros and cons about it.

I loved my job, I loved the people, but sometimes working for a big corporation can be difficult.

I realized that I love kids while working there, that’s why I have two jobs working with kids now.

Who’s your favorite disney character?

Mines Donald

... Read moreSo, you’ve heard about the Disney College Program, right? It sounds like a dream come true, and in many ways, it truly is! I mean, who wouldn't want to work at the 'Most Magical Place on Earth'? But let's be real, every job has its ups and downs, even one where you get to see Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck every day. My time in the Disney uniform was genuinely transformative. The biggest 'pro' for me was the people – both my fellow Cast Members and the guests. There's a special camaraderie among those going through the DCP together, creating friendships that last a lifetime. And seeing the pure joy on a child's face, especially when they hug their favorite character like Donald Duck, that's a magic you can't really describe. It even made me realize how much I love working with kids, which shaped my career path significantly! The training is top-notch, and you learn invaluable customer service skills that are applicable anywhere. On the flip side, working for a corporation as massive as Disney came with its own set of challenges. The working conditions could be demanding. Think long hours, especially during peak seasons or holidays, often on your feet all day. Repetitive tasks are part of the job, and maintaining that 'Disney smile' when you're tired or dealing with a difficult guest can be tough. There were times when the sheer scale of operations made me feel like just a cog in a very large, magical machine. The pay wasn't fantastic, but the experience and perks (like park access!) often made up for it. Job satisfaction at Disney, I found, is a really personal thing. For me, the moments of genuine connection, the laughter, and being part of something so iconic were huge motivators. It wasn't always about the daily grind; it was about the bigger picture of creating happiness. But you definitely need a positive attitude and a passion for service to truly thrive. Some days I felt incredibly fulfilled, like when I helped a family create a core memory. Other days, exhaustion kicked in, and I questioned if I was making a real impact. It's a balance. Beyond the work itself, the Disney College Program offers unique living and learning aspects. Living with other CPs from all over the world was an adventure in itself, fostering independence and cultural understanding. There are also educational components and networking opportunities that are fantastic for career development. It's not just a job; it's an immersive experience that teaches you a lot about yourself and the world beyond the park gates. If you're considering it, be prepared for hard work, but also for unforgettable memories and growth. It's an experience I wouldn't trade for anything, even with its complexities.
