Based on personal experience and observations within many Christian families, one of the primary reasons children become distant from the church is the lack of active spiritual involvement by their fathers. Studies show that over 70% of religious influence in the home comes from the father’s example rather than the mother’s. When the father is busy with work or distracted by worldly pursuits, children often lose their spiritual anchor. In many homes, the absence of warmth and genuine connection in the father-child relationship can lead children to feel disconnected not only from their family but also from faith communities. This loss of a positive role model results in children struggling to see the church as a living, supportive environment. Moreover, the rise of a fast-paced lifestyle and increasing digital distractions means children might prioritize superficial or secular activities over attending church or engaging with religious teachings. This superficial engagement often hinders their ability to develop a deep, meaningful relationship with God. Encouragingly, many fathers who intentionally dedicate time to spiritual guidance — such as sharing scripture, discussing faith openly, and involving children in church activities — report stronger family bonds and renewed interest in church life among their kids. The Church can also support families by offering programs that strengthen fathers’ roles at home and in the faith community. The message highlights the importance of consistent, loving parental involvement and warns against neglecting the spiritual upbringing amid life’s busyness. As Father Jean emphasizes, recognizing these challenges is the first step for families aiming to bring their children back closer to the church and to God.
