My July read 🇺🇸🌸✨

2024/7/6 Edited to

... Read moreOh my goodness, I completely agree! Finishing 'Circe' by Madeline Miller left such a profound impact on me too. That feeling of wanting more—more mythological magic, more powerful female voices, and more exquisitely crafted prose—is so real! The way Miller brought the ancient world to life and made Circe's journey so deeply personal and relatable was just breathtaking. I was absolutely captivated by her transformation and resilience, living on that island, mastering her witchcraft, and navigating love and loss. It wasn't just a story; it felt like an experience. If you're anything like me, you're probably scouring for your next book that offers those same incredible 'Circe' vibes. I've been on that quest myself, and I've found a few gems that really hit the spot. First up, it’s almost a given, but if you haven't read 'The Song of Achilles' also by Madeline Miller, run, don't walk! While it focuses on Achilles and Patroclus, Miller's signature lyrical writing and deep dive into mythological characters are just as stunning. It's an epic love story set against the backdrop of the Trojan War, and the emotional depth is unparalleled. You'll find yourself just as engrossed in their fates as you were in Circe's. Another fantastic recommendation is 'Ariadne' by Jennifer Saint. This book gives you another powerful female perspective from Greek mythology. Saint beautifully reimagines the story of Ariadne, princess of Crete, and her fateful encounters with the Minotaur, Theseus, and Dionysus. It shares Circe's spirit of a woman forging her own path in a patriarchal world, filled with gods and monsters. The vivid storytelling and exploration of sisterhood and survival are truly compelling. And for something with a slightly different twist on mythological retellings, I'd suggest 'The Penelopiad' by Margaret Atwood. This novella offers Penelope's perspective on the events of the Odyssey, including her life during Odysseus's long absence and her tragic fate upon his return. Atwood's sharp wit and feminist lens provide a fresh, often poignant, take on a classic tale, giving voice to the often-silenced women of mythology, much like Circe's own journey. It’s a quicker read but incredibly impactful! These books, like Circe, delve into the complexities of human (and godly) nature, fate, and free will, all wrapped in narratives that feel both ancient and incredibly modern. I'm always on the lookout for more, so if you've discovered any other books that give you those strong, enchanting mythological vibes, please share them with me! Let's build the ultimate reading list for fans of 'Circe'!
