oceanarium: should you go or not?

hey zesties! i visited the newly opened Singapore Oceanarium (formerly S.E.A Aquarium) recently and thought i would share my personal opinions on the place 😋

first, let’s talk about the pros:

the oceanarium was more fun than i expected. they had new zones and it was definitely bigger than the previous aquarium (it took my partner and i about 5 hours to walk around; if you’re leisurely strolling and eating, that is)

there were quite a few cool things to see like new fishes/animals and new information zones but i will not spoil them!

the shop also had many cute items that i was really tempted to buy but ultimately didn’t cause of how expensive it was 🫨

now, the cons:

not gonna lie, i was expecting an affordable price for tickets like the previous aquarium. except that ticket prices went at $42/pax for SG citizens on NON-PEAK periods, which was kind of a shock to me when i was first buying tickets. kind of a big jump from previous ticket pricing 🤡

unfortunately i didn’t get to try the restaurant inside as it was closed for an event when we went, but would i want to spend another $42 just to spend more money on fine dining based on what i saw on tiktok? 💀

there are up to 3 food carts placed around the oceanarium, but the food was so expensive omg?? my partner and i ended up buying a chicken hotdog and chicken tenders because we didn’t eat lunch prior to visiting, so make sure you eat before going!! 😭

AND THEY TOOK AWAY THE MOVING TUNNEL!!! 🥹 my heart sank when i saw the previous long moving tunnel became split into 3 small tunnels 😭

overall, i would say it’s a good experience for a date or family outing but would i visit again? probably not…

... Read moreIf you’re planning a visit to the Singapore Oceanarium, here are some practical tips to get the most out of your trip. First, allow at least 4 to 5 hours to truly explore all the zones comfortably without rushing. The Oceanarium is larger than its predecessor, featuring new interactive areas like the manta ray exhibit and arena that add fresh excitement to the experience. Regarding food, it’s wise to have a meal before you arrive because the onsite options are limited and tend to be quite pricey. The three food carts offer basic snacks, but they won’t suffice for a full meal unless you want to splurge. Unfortunately, the main restaurant wasn’t accessible during my visit, so I can’t comment on its offerings, though I heard it’s an upscale experience. Ticket pricing has increased significantly, from previous rates to about $42 per adult during non-peak times for Singapore citizens. While this might feel steep, especially if you’re used to the old aquarium rates, the upgraded exhibits and immersive zones somewhat justify the cost. One notable change to prepare for is the removal of the iconic moving tunnel, which was split into smaller segments. It was a bit disappointing for me, as that tunnel was a signature experience, but the new layout brings other unique features to enjoy. If you like souvenirs, the gift shop has adorable but costly items, so budget accordingly. Overall, the Oceanarium is a great option for an engaging date or family outing if you appreciate marine life and want to explore new aquatic displays. However, I might hesitate to revisit soon, mainly due to the price and food options. Lastly, consider checking the Oceanarium’s website or social media for updates on opening hours and special events to plan your visit better. This spot has definitely evolved, so going in with clear expectations will help you enjoy your day to the fullest.
