Cloud Strife cosplay

Hey everyone! I'm still buzzing from my latest cosplay project – bringing Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII to life! It's been a dream character of mine for ages, and finally getting to wear this iconic outfit and wield the Buster Sword felt absolutely incredible. I wanted to share a bit about my process and some of the things I learned along the way, especially for anyone else dreaming of becoming this legendary SOLDIER! Let's talk about that *hair*! Achieving Cloud's signature spiky blonde look was probably one of the biggest challenges. It's not just about spraying a lot of hairspray; it's about building volume and structure. I started with a good quality blonde wig, making sure it had enough density to withstand styling. My secret? Back-combing like crazy at the roots for lift, then using a strong-hold hair spray section by section. For those super sharp spikes, I even used a bit of craft foam cut into needle shapes and inserted them into the wig base before styling, then covered them with hair strands. It takes patience, but the result is so worth it for that authentic Cloud Strife hair, just like you see in those full-body shots! The black outfit itself might seem simple, but the details are absolutely key. I spent a lot of time sourcing the right materials for the leather accents and buckles to make sure it felt sturdy and screen-accurate. For the main black garment, I opted for a durable pleather that had a slight matte finish, not too shiny. The single shoulder armor piece was tricky; I patterned it out myself using EVA foam, then sealed and painted it to look like distressed metal. Don't forget the boots! Finding good combat boots that could be modified with the right straps and buckles really completes the Cloud Strife costume. It's all about layering and getting those small elements just right to achieve that perfect Cloud FF7 cosplay look. And of course, the star of the show – the Buster Sword! This prop is massive, and honestly, transporting it was a workout in itself. Mine is primarily made from PVC pipe for the core for durability, layered with EVA foam for the blade shape, and then coated with a thermoplastic for extra strength and a smooth finish. Painting it to look like weathered metal, complete with nicks and scratches, really brought it to life. If you're making your own, remember to keep it lightweight enough to pose with, but sturdy enough to withstand conventions. Holding that sword, whether by the sea or on green grass, for full-body shots truly makes you feel like Cloud! Getting those dynamic full-body shots, especially outdoors by the sea or in a grassy field, was so much fun! I found that practicing some of Cloud's iconic poses in front of a mirror really helped. Think about his stance, how he holds the Buster Sword, and that slightly brooding but determined expression. Working with a photographer who understands action shots also makes a huge difference. We experimented with different angles to emphasize the sword's size and the overall impact of the black Cloud Strife outfit. It was an amazing experience seeing it all come together! Cosplaying Cloud Strife was an incredibly rewarding experience. From perfecting the spiky blonde hair to crafting the detailed black outfit and colossal Buster Sword, every step was a labor of love.
