What I wore in Paris-three weeks in a carry on

It’s fun to see what all you can mix and match to make work in a carry on bag- but the trick is to buy more clothes while you’re there 👹

We see those effortlessly chic locals and wonder how they manage to look so put-together without seemingly trying too hard. The good news is, you absolutely can embody that same elegance, even when packing for three weeks in just a carry-on, just like I did! My secret? It’s all about building a versatile capsule wardrobe with pieces that can be mixed and matched for different occasions, from visiting Monet's Garden to enjoying an aperitif. Here’s how I approached it: 1. The Foundation: Neutrals and Classics Parisian style leans heavily on a neutral palette. Think black, white, navy, gray, and beige. These colors are incredibly versatile and can be dressed up or down. I packed a few basic tees (white, black, striped), a couple of silk camisoles, tailored black trousers, a well-fitting pair of dark-wash jeans, and a classic trench coat. A simple black or navy midi skirt also works wonders, easily transitioning from a daytime stroll around the city to an evening at a jazz club. 2. Layering is Your Best Friend Paris weather can be unpredictable, even over three weeks. Layers allow you to adapt. I always include a lightweight cardigan, a stylish scarf (or two – they instantly elevate any outfit!), and that essential trench coat. For those cooler evenings or early mornings cafe sitting and writing, these layers come in handy. 3. Comfortable Yet Chic Footwear This is non-negotiable, especially when you plan on walking to the park, around the city, and exploring the Louvre. I brought a pair of stylish, comfortable sneakers (think white leather), classic ballet flats or chic loafers, and a pair of low-heeled ankle boots. Leave the sky-high heels at home unless you have a very specific, short-distance event in mind. 4. Accessorize Like a Parisian Accessories are where you can inject personality without adding bulk to your luggage. A classic leather crossbody bag is perfect for keeping your essentials safe while navigating the metro and browsing shops. Sunglasses are a must, and a simple watch or delicate jewelry can complete a look. Remember, French women often opt for quality over quantity. 5. Outfit Ideas for Parisian Activities (Inspired by My Own Trip!): Monet's Garden / Walking Tours: Tailored shorts or comfortable jeans, a striped tee, a light cardigan, comfy sneakers, and a chic scarf. Practical but still polished. The Louvre / Art Gallery: Black trousers, a silk camisole or a well-fitting blouse, ballet flats, and your trench coat. Smart casual is key. Cafe Sitting & Writing / Shopping: Jeans, a white tee, a blazer or trench, and loafers. Effortlessly cool and comfortable for a full day of browsing. Aperitif & Dinner / Jazz Club: Black midi skirt or tailored trousers, a dressier top (silk cami or blouse), low-heeled ankle boots or ballet flats, and perhaps a statement necklace or earrings. And yes, as the original article hints, part of the fun is embracing the opportunity to shop while you're there! I found some beautiful unique pieces during my shopping excursions that perfectly complemented my existing wardrobe and now serve as wonderful souvenirs. Just remember to leave a little space in your carry-on for those new treasures! By focusing on timeless pieces and smart layering, you'll master Parisian style for women with ease, even out of a carry-on suitcase.
