What Does it Actually Feel Like?
If you are wondering if you should make your own you absolutly should. I did and I am so happy I did! Save for my Diy Tincture and let me know if you plan on trying it out!
If you’ve been feeling like your brain is a browser with fifty tabs open—half of them frozen and one playing music you can’t find—it’s time to meet Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus). I did and I will never not include this with my daily coffee. I have been on cloud 9 getting so much accomplished. Like who am I these days!
This isn't just another wellness trend I fear; it’s a shaggy, white fungus that looks more like a cheerleader’s pom-pom than a mushroom, or even a human brain and its effects on the human brain are nothing short of legendary.
People often ask, "Am I going to feel a 'buzz'?" Not exactly. Lion’s Mane is subtle but profound. Here is how the "Lion’s Mane shift" typically feels:
What’s Happening in Your Body?
1. Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) & Nerve Repair
Lion’s Mane contains two specific compounds: hericenols and erinacines. These are known to stimulate Nerve Growth Factor. If your aches and pains were related to nerve sensitivity or minor peripheral nerve issues, Lion's Mane acts like a "repair man" for those pathways, which can lead to that "mind-body" clarity you're feeling.
2. Anti-Inflammatory Synergy
The Mushroom: Lion’s Mane is highly anti-inflammatory. It helps down-regulate pro-inflammatory cytokines in the body.
The ACV: Raw apple cider vinegar helps balance the body’s internal pH and contains acetic acid, which can improve circulation and reduce the buildup of lactic acid or waste products in the joints.
3. The Gut-Brain Connection
Lion's Mane is a prebiotic that supports the gut lining, and ACV is a well-known digestive aid. Since a huge portion of systemic inflammation (which causes aches and pains) starts in the gut, you’re likely calming the "fire" at the source.
Why the Tincture Form Worked
Mushrooms have tough cell walls made of chitin (the same stuff in shrimp shells). You can't just eat a raw mushroom and get the benefits; you have to break those walls down.
By letting it sit in the acidic environment of the vinegar for days or weeks, you’ve chemically "cooked" the mushroom, releasing the bioactive compounds so they are immediately bioavailable the second you swallow them.
A few tips for your new routine:
Consistency: Keep your dosage consistent to maintain those NGF levels.
Check the "Mother": If you used ACV with "the mother," you’re also getting a probiotic boost.
Hydrate: When you start a potent anti-inflammatory routine, your body starts moving waste products out of your tissues more efficiently—plenty of water will help flush them out.
The Lifting of the Fog: Within a few weeks, that heavy, afternoon brain fog begins to thin. Tasks that felt daunting become manageable. Your thoughts are just gathered, its like nothing is miss firing.
Quiet Focus: You might find yourself "in the zone" for longer periods without the jittery crash of caffeine. I mean you stay in the zone and its like ooooooo what is next!
Emotional Resilience: Because it supports the nervous system, many users report a "calmer" baseline and a reduction in mild anxiety.
The "Vivid" Effect: A common (and cool) side effect? Many people report more intense, vivid dreams as their neurobiology starts firing on all cylinders.
The Science: Nerve Growth Factor (NGF)
Lion’s Mane contains two specific compounds: hericenones and erinacines. These are rare because they can cross the blood-brain barrier.
Once inside, they stimulate the production of Nerve Growth Factor (NGF). Think of NGF as "Miracle-Gro" for your brain cells. It helps repair, protect, and even grow new neurons.
DIY: The Dual-Extraction Tincture
To get the full benefits, you can't just eat raw Lion's Mane or throw it in a smoothie. Its medicinal compounds are locked behind "chitin"—a tough cell wall that the human stomach can't break down easily.
To unlock everything, we use an-Extraction method:
one part applecider viniger (for the hericenones)
What You’ll Need
Dry Lion’s Mane mushroom (roughly 1 cup, crumbled)
Apple Cider viniger
A glass jar with a tight lid
Step 1: The viniger Extract (2–4 Weeks)
Fill your jar about halfway with the dried mushroom.
Pour the viniger over the mushrooms until they are completely submerged (leave about an inch of space at the top).
Store in a cool, dark place for 2 to 4 weeks, shaking the jar daily.
Strain the liquid into a clean bowl. Keep the viniger liquid in a separate jar.
Store in a dark glass dropper bottle.
Dosage: Start with 1–2 droppers full (approx. 1–2ml) daily in your morning coffee or tea.
Lion’s Mane is a marathon, not a sprint. While some feel a shift in days, the real "life-changing" magic happens after 3 to 4 weeks of consistent use. Give your neurons time to build that new infrastructure!
Disclaimer: Always consult with a healthcare professional before adding new supplements to your routine, especially if you have mushroom allergies or are on medication.
