iceland in photos and food 2023

... Read moreStepping into Pítubarinn after a chilly evening exploring Reykjavik felt like discovering a culinary oasis. I was on a 2023 trip to Iceland, craving something hearty but quick, and this place truly delivered. It's not just a fast-food joint; it's a cornerstone of the local food scene, especially if you're looking for an authentic, no-frills experience that satisfies both your hunger and your wallet. The menu, though seemingly simple, offers a fantastic variety of pita wraps, salads, and sides. I remember standing there, slightly overwhelmed by the delicious options – chicken, lamb, falafel, all served in their signature fluffy pita bread. I decided to go for their classic chicken pita, loaded with fresh veggies and a generous dollop of their famous garlic sauce. My travel companion opted for the falafel pita, curious about their vegetarian offerings and always on the lookout for great plant-based options while traveling. From the first bite, I knew I had made the right choice. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and tender, the vegetables crisp, and the pita bread was warm and incredibly soft. But it was the garlic sauce that truly elevated it – creamy, flavorful, and just garlicky enough without being overpowering. My friend raved about the falafel too, noting its crispy exterior and moist, flavorful interior, a testament to the fresh ingredients clearly used. Each component tasted high-quality, a pleasant surprise for a late-night eatery or a quick lunch spot. Pítubarinn has a distinctly local, bustling vibe. It's often filled with both locals catching a quick bite and fellow tourists who have heard whispers of its reputation. There are a few stools and a counter if you want to eat in, but it's largely a grab-and-go spot, perfect for fueling up before continuing your Icelandic adventure or heading back to your accommodation after a long day. It’s unpretentious and efficient, which I really appreciated after a day of sightseeing and exploring the city's charming streets. What makes Pítubarinn truly stand out, especially in a city where dining can be quite expensive, is its incredible value. You get a substantial, delicious meal without breaking the bank. It's an ideal spot for lunch, a casual dinner, or even a late-night snack when most other places are closed. I found myself going back a couple of times during my week-long stay in 2023 because it was consistently good and conveniently located in the city center. If you're visiting Reykjavik, especially if you're exploring the Laugavegur area, keep an eye out for it. Don't be shy to try their different sauces – they're all amazing, but the garlic sauce is legendary. Be prepared for a potentially short wait during peak hours, but trust me, it's worth it! My Pítubarinn experience was definitely a highlight of my food journey in Iceland. It proved that you don't always need a fancy restaurant to have an unforgettable culinary moment. For anyone planning a trip to Iceland, especially if you love flavorful, fresh, and affordable food, Pítubarinn should absolutely be on your list. It’s a taste of authentic Icelandic fast-food culture that you won't want to miss!

ICELAND
Not all pictures need an explanation! Some of the beautiful landscapes Iceland has to offer (: If I was to ever go back to Iceland I would rent a camper van & drive around the island. I would carefully plan my stops for where I’d stay for the night. I would also go during the summer time
