You don’t always have to draw on paper or paint on canvas. There are so many things you can draw/paint on like:
💛A wooden bowl - A bowl is a good place to start because it’s available in so many different shapes and sizes. You can paint the whole bowl in any color and design you want and the inside of you want. Use the bowl to add as an accent piece in your home or put a plant in it.
💛An old chair - If there’s an old chair lying around your home why not give it a makeover. Painting an old piece gives it new life while still keeping some character. Also add some unique designs that may not have been on it before.
💛VR - Yes my kids decorated their VR with permanent markers and drew amazing pictures on it. 😂Turn that plain VR into a work of art!
💛 A pair of shoes -Have you ever painted on a canvas or leather shoe before? If not why not give it a try and add your own flavor to spice up a plain pair of kicks. You can even buy a pair of inexpensive white canvas shoes at Joannes Fabrics to practice on.
💛 In a book- Drawing in a book with only words is a fun and creative way to create art masterpieces. I love looking for old vintage books in the thrift store that look a little worn and I love to draw art on that paper in the books. The art pieces look so unique and eye catching.
Don’t be afraid to try and paint or draw on something that you wouldn’t normally paint or draw on. For example, if you never drew in a tiny Sketchbook before why not give it a try! 💛🤗
... Read moreWow, it's so true how much fun it is to break free from traditional paper! After trying out some of the ideas mentioned earlier, I've been hooked on finding new canvases. If you're looking for even more inspiration on what to draw or paint, especially with pens, let me share some of my personal discoveries and tips.
When it comes to those awesome wooden bowls, I've found they're perfect for intricate mandala patterns or abstract organic shapes. Imagine a swirling "tiny boho design" covering the inside or outside, bringing a touch of calm to your space. For an old chair, instead of just a simple design, why not try a series of small, interconnected drawings? You could do a themed chair, like one covered in whimsical forest creatures or a collection of inspiring quotes in stylized "word art." My friends have even done themed chairs for their kids' rooms, painting their favorite cartoon characters.
And for shoes, oh, the possibilities are endless! Beyond just abstract designs, try sketching out a favorite city skyline, your pet's portrait, or even creating a custom pattern that matches your personality. I recently painted a pair with tiny stars and moons, using a fine-liner for the "tiny detail work." Speaking of fine-liners, my Micron 005 pen has become my go-to for these smaller projects, allowing for incredible precision.
If you're anything like me, you love finding old books to draw in. What I love to do is create illustrations that interact with the existing text. For example, if a page talks about a journey, I might draw a small map or a tiny hot air balloon floating above the words. Or, for a book filled with stories, try sketching some of the characters in your own "tiny artwork" style right on the pages. It truly makes each book a unique masterpiece.
Beyond the fantastic ideas from the main article, I've explored a few other unconventional surfaces myself. Have you ever tried drawing on a smooth rock? They make fantastic canvases for mandalas or simple, uplifting messages. Just make sure to seal your artwork afterward! Another favorite of mine is drawing on plain ceramic mugs with special ceramic markers. Imagine sipping your morning coffee from a mug you've decorated with your own "tiny geometric design" or a funny cartoon. It’s such a simple way to add a personal touch to everyday items.
For those who love to carry their art with them, clear phone cases are brilliant! You can draw directly on the case (use acrylic markers and seal them well) or even draw on a piece of paper that you slip inside. This allows you to change your phone art as often as you like – perfect for someone who loves variety! And don't forget fabric items like tote bags or plain t-shirts. Fabric markers open up a whole new world of wearable art.
I recently picked up a "tiny spiral sketchbook" that was labeled "My Tiny Sketchbook," and it reminded me how satisfying it is to create small, detailed pieces. Whether it's a "bunny hoodie" design in miniature or a "kitty" with a sweet smile, limiting your canvas size can really boost creativity and force you to focus on those "tiny detail work" moments.
My biggest tip for anyone wanting to try these projects is always to test your drawing medium on an inconspicuous part of the surface first. Different materials react differently to pens and paints. And don't be afraid to experiment! The whole point is to have fun and express yourself in new ways. Happy creating!
So beautiful and pretty and perfect ❤️❤️❤️
