Books that shaped my life 📚
These books have really helped shape me into who I am today. I’ve taken bits and pieces from each book, circled, highlighted and gone back to look at my quotes. If you haven’t read these- I highly recommend!!
👉🏼 The Mountain is You- Brianna, the author explains that the "mountain" is a metaphor for the internal barriers, fears, and self-sabotaging behaviors that prevent us from reaching our true potential. I learned a lot about how I had been holding myself back for so long! Lots of learning to embrace imperfections and internal work.
👉🏼 The Sugar Jar- Yasmine Cheyenne uses the metaphor of a sugar jar to explain the concept of energy and boundaries, encouraging self-healing and setting limits to protect personal energy. She guides readers to identify energy-depleting patterns, recognize their worth, and set boundaries to prevent others from draining their "sugar" without their consent. It emphasizes that putting a "lid" on your sugar jar allows you to control who and what accesses your energy, leading to greater self-care, resilience, and a more joyful life. This is one of my absolute top favorites in this category- this was the first book I read coming out of my marriage.
👉🏼 Untamed by Glennon Doyle is a memoir and self-help book exploring self-discovery and the liberation of breaking free from societal expectations and pressures. Through her personal journey of confronting challenges like her unhappy marriage, addiction, and body image issues, she details her process of shedding imposed ideals and reclaiming her authentic self. She encourages readers, especially women, to trust their inner voices, embrace intuition, and challenge the "cages" of conformity to live a more honest and free life. I learned and took so much from this book!
👉🏼 The Game of Life and How to Play It- Florence Scovel Shinn asserts that life is a game, not a battle, governed by laws of metaphysics, where thoughts and words manifest reality. To play successfully, one must use their imagination and words to "image" and decree only good things, such as wealth, health, and happiness, thereby attracting these desires into their life by aligning their thoughts with the "divine pattern" and trusting in God's abundant supply. This book has a lot of good- key concepts to life. The central idea is that life is a game with rules, and by understanding these rules (the laws of metaphysics), one can play it to win.
👉🏼 The Let Them Theory- a mindset tool that encourages people to stop trying to control others' thoughts, actions, and behaviors, and instead accept what is outside their influence. The theory's core concept is to say "let them" when feeling frustrated or hurt by someone's actions, thereby shifting focus from managing others to managing your own reactions and energy. This shift promotes emotional peace, protects your mental energy, and ultimately gives you more control over your own life by empowering you to make choices that align with your values. I really learned how to just “let them” after reading this book! I no longer care about being left out of things, talked to certain ways etc. I worry much less and ruminate much less!
👉🏼 It Begins With You- centered on nine hard truths about love and relationships, teaching readers to look inward and build a healthier relationship with themselves as the foundation for all other relationships. The book provides practical self-healing techniques and strategies to identify and change unhealthy relationship patterns, emphasizing that the common denominator in all relationships is oneself.
👉🏼 The Big Leap-introduces the concept of the Upper Limit Problem (ULP), a subconscious barrier we create to cap our happiness and success, preventing us from reaching our full potential. The book guides readers to identify their ULP, a hidden fear or limiting belief—such as feeling flawed, fearing abandonment or success, or worrying about outshining others—and to move beyond it to their Zone of Genius. Through practical techniques and understanding these core fears, readers can break free from self-sabotage and experience lasting fulfillment in love, work, and life. This book was so so good!
