Wow, I'm so thrilled to share my Okarun drawing with you all! It was such a fun challenge bringing this iconic character from the Dandadan manga to life on paper. I found that focusing on his defining features really helps capture his essence. When I started this pencil drawing, I really wanted to get his signature look just right. Those distinctive round glasses are definitely a focal point, don't you think? And then there are his sharp, almost fanged teeth, which add so much personality to his expressions. Of course, you can't forget his wild, spiky hair – it gives him such a dynamic and energetic vibe! I usually begin with a light sketch of the overall head shape, then place the glasses, and from there, build out the facial features and that fantastic hair. Using a reference image, like the manga panel I used, is super helpful to make sure you get the proportions and details accurate. For anyone looking for an 'easy' way into drawing Okarun, my biggest tip is to break him down into simple shapes first. Think of the head as an oval, then add guide lines for the eyes, nose, and mouth. Don't be afraid to keep your initial lines light and loose! You can always refine them later. A good mechanical pencil with different lead hardness can make a huge difference in creating varying line weights and textures, especially for his hair or the shading on his clothes. What I love about drawing characters like Okarun is how much room there is for artistic interpretation. His life takes a wild turn when he gets entangled with his classmate Momo Ayase, and they both gain supernatural powers through encounters with yokai and aliens. He's a character who really grows throughout the series, constantly facing bizarre threats with a mix of fear, courage, and a surprising amount of resilience.
