Tattoo Apprentice
I’m happy to be sharing some of my first tattoo pieces as an apprentice. It’s so exciting finally going from fake skin to real clients! I appreciate everyone who’s been cheering me on and I can’t wait to see where this road takes me! 🤗
Stepping into the world of tattooing as an apprentice has been a dream come true, and finally moving from fake skin to working with real clients is an exhilarating milestone on this journey. Many people ask, "how does one become a tattoo artist?" and let me tell you, it's a path paved with dedication, endless drawing, and a hefty dose of humility. My personal tattoo industry learning journey started long before I landed my apprenticeship here in Glendale, AZ. It began with years of drawing, sketching, and developing my own artistic style. Building a strong portfolio was absolutely crucial. This wasn't just about showing off my best work, but also demonstrating my versatility and passion for different art forms that could translate into tattooing. Finding an apprenticeship, especially in a competitive area like Arizona, was a challenge. I spent months researching local shops, visiting them, and trying to connect with artists whose work I admired. It's not just about finding a shop; it’s about finding a mentor who believes in your potential and is willing to invest their time and knowledge in you. My advice for anyone wanting to embark on this tattoo artist career path is to be persistent, humble, and always eager to learn. Showing up consistently, even just to observe, can make a huge difference. During my apprenticeship, a typical day involves a lot more than just tattooing. I’ve spent countless hours observing my mentor, learning about health and safety regulations, cleaning stations, setting up for appointments, and practicing my line work and shading on fake skin. The transition from that silicone practice skin to real human skin is a monumental leap. The texture, the way the needle interacts, the responsibility – it’s all so different. It truly tests your focus and precision. Being a tattoo apprentice is a demanding role, often with long hours and a steep learning curve, but the rewards are immeasurable. Every small victory, like successfully pulling a clean line or perfectly packing color, feels like a huge accomplishment. My goal is to continually hone my craft and eventually become a full-fledged tattoo artist, creating meaningful art for people. If you're considering becoming a tattoo artist, remember it's a marathon, not a sprint, but every step, especially here in Glendale, AZ, brings you closer to your artistic vision.
