During Portland Dining Month, I found the opportunity to indulge in some of Portland’s best seasonal dishes offered at a great price point, and it truly felt like a culinary adventure. The $55 three-course menu was thoughtfully crafted by Executive Chef Will Preisch, emphasizing locally sourced ingredients which really enhanced the freshness and flavors on the plate. One item that left a lasting impression was the scrapple accompanied by verjus raisin sauce—rich, savory, and perfectly balanced. It was paired wonderfully with farm eggs and complemented nicely by the chicory salad, which combined citrus, stracciatella, and black olives for a refreshing, tangy bite. The pork schnitzel stood out as a comforting and hearty dish, served alongside sweet potatoes and dressed with subtle umami touches like black garlic aioli. For beverage pairings, the 2022 Domaine de Brin wine selections such as the Farm Gamay ‘Concreto’ and Farm Pinot Noir elevated the meal with their delicate fruit notes and structure. The mezcal margarita and Roaring IPA were great choices for those who enjoy a creative cocktail or craft beer with their meal. Portland’s focus on ingredient quality was evident, with many components coming from local farms and vineyards, including an impressive 82-acre vineyard mentioned as a notable source. This commitment helps support the local community and ensures freshness in every dish. The date cake was a perfect sweet finish with yeasted caramel and lees whipped cream adding layers of flavor and texture. Overall, this dining experience was not only about the food but also about embracing Portland’s vibrant foodie culture during one of its most celebrated culinary events. It’s an ideal way for visitors and locals alike to discover new favorites and enjoy high-quality seasonal cooking without straining the wallet. If you’re planning to participate in Portland Dining Month, I recommend making a reservation early, as spots tend to fill quickly due to the excellent value and creative menus offered by participating restaurants. It’s a rewarding experience that highlights Portland’s innovative culinary scene and dedication to great flavors from farm to table.
