“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.”- anonymous
Every day I get to wake up, I am so grateful! It isn't because I am just wired that way either. It is a practice I have worked hard to developed and still struggle with some days. For those of you who feel saddened or depressed by life, I encourage you to try really feeling grateful for the small things, the big things, and all the stuff in between. 💙

It’s a profound truth I've discovered through personal experience. For a long time, I found myself dwelling on what went wrong or worrying about the future. It was exhausting. But I eventually learned that gratitude isn't just a fleeting feeling; it’s a deliberate practice that can fundamentally shift your perspective and well-being. It’s not about ignoring challenges, but about actively seeking out the good, even when things are tough, rather than ignoring challenges.
How does gratitude help make sense of our past? It’s about reframing. Instead of getting stuck in regret or disappointment, a gratitude practice encourages you to look for the lessons learned, the resilience you gained, or even the unexpected blessings that emerged from difficult situations. Perhaps a past setback led you to a new path, or a challenging relationship taught you invaluable self-worth. When I reflect on my own past through a lens of gratitude, I can see how every experience, good or bad, has contributed to who I am today. It doesn't erase the pain, but it helps integrate it into a narrative of growth rather than one of perpetual loss.
The immediate benefit I've noticed is the peace it brings to my daily life. In our fast-paced world, it's so easy to get caught up in worries about deadlines, finances, or what's next. But pausing to acknowledge the present blessings anchors you. It could be as simple as the warmth of your coffee, the sun on your face, or the comfort of your favorite blanket. Personally, taking a moment to appreciate my family, the playful antics of my pets, or even just a truly delicious meal, pulls me out of my head and into the moment. It’s a powerful antidote to anxiety, helping you recognize that even amidst chaos, there are always pockets of calm and moments worth savoring.
And for tomorrow? Gratitude isn't just backward or inward-looking; it's a powerful catalyst for a positive future. When you consistently focus on abundance and what you do have, you naturally cultivate a more optimistic outlook. This optimism fuels your motivation and helps you envision possibilities instead of limitations. For me, this practice often takes the form of journaling. I love dedicating a specific space for my thoughts, like a 'June gratitude log.' Sometimes, I even choose a fun theme, like an 'underwater theme with colorful fish and coral' to make the process even more enjoyable and inspiring. There's something wonderfully tactile and intentional about writing down my thanks.
If you're thinking about starting your own 'gratitude log,' here are a few tips. Don't feel pressured to list grand gestures every day. My 'handwritten entries' often include small, everyday joys: a good night's sleep, a funny text from a friend, the vibrant colors of a sunset, or the simple fact of having 'good meals.' Consider dedicating just 5-10 minutes each morning or evening. You can use prompts, or simply free-write. The act of putting pen to paper solidifies these feelings and makes them more real. It's a gentle, yet profound, way to acknowledge the richness already present in your life and to set a positive tone for what's ahead.
It’s important to remember that some days, finding gratitude can feel impossible, especially when you're feeling down. That’s perfectly normal. On those days, even acknowledging the ability to try to find gratitude can be a start. Or perhaps you can be grateful for a basic comfort, like warmth or shelter. Consistency is key, not perfection. This practice has truly been a cornerstone of my mental health journey, helping me embrace vulnerability and build resilience. I genuinely encourage anyone feeling overwhelmed or a bit lost to give it a try. You might be surprised by how much peace it brings and the beautiful vision it helps you create for your own future.
