Book Review: Icebreaker

I must say, if you are into young adult novel, romantic comedy, where you’re an advanced level of realistic, insecurities, and a new take on the typical tropes. This is the book for you. I love this book because it was a unique sport and I love that she was an ice skater where it just seems like the sports alone made them have that common trait. The author gave her unique insecurities that are common, but not as talked about compared to like look and everything and she took a twist on the conversation of weight and body dysmorphia. It was a little nervous for me as a reader to see how quickly they connected, but at the same time, I appreciated it because it made the rest of the story flow better in my personally opinion with everything they encounter as a working couple. It’s so relatable in today’s age of dating at this time of transition as a teen to an adult, so it was definitely a very unique relatability that’s not commonly seen. This is the first book I’ve read that was properly published that had an epilogue. So with that, that made me appreciate this book furthermore. It’s definitely hot ticket item. It took me six weeks to get it while waiting in the library. Definitely get your hands on this book when you can.

... Read moreGiven how many of you are searching for details on Hannah Grace and the 'Icebreaker' aesthetic, I just had to dive deeper into what makes this book an absolute phenomenon, beyond just my personal five-star rating! It’s no wonder it’s a #1 New York Times bestseller with over one million copies sold – this isn’t just another sports romance; it’s a whole vibe. One of the first things that draws you in is the captivating hockey romance aesthetic, perfectly captured by its cover featuring an ice skater and a hockey player on the rink. This visual alone sets the stage for the unique dynamic you find within the pages. You get the fierce passion of two competitive athletes from different worlds – figure skating and ice hockey – yet they share the same icy domain and a deep understanding of dedication. It’s a fresh take on the 'opposites attract' trope, where their differences in sport actually highlight their common ground. The chemistry between Stassie and Nathan feels so authentic, not just because they’re both driven, but because they navigate the complexities of their demanding lives together. Hannah Grace truly shines in her character development. What makes ‘Icebreaker’ so special for young adult readers is how authentically it tackles real-life challenges. Beyond the swoon-worthy romance, the author delves into insecurities that are often overlooked in books, like body image and self-worth, particularly from Stassie’s perspective on weight and body dysmorphia. It’s handled with such care and realism, making her struggles incredibly relatable for anyone transitioning from their teens to adulthood. This isn’t a story where problems magically disappear; it’s about growing through them, finding support in unexpected places, and learning to love yourself amidst external pressures. The fast connection between the characters, which some might find quick, actually allows the story to focus more on their journey as a working couple, facing obstacles and growing together. This aspect really resonated with me, reflecting the realities of dating and building relationships in today's world. It’s not just about the initial spark, but the sustained effort, communication, and mutual respect that builds a strong partnership. So, if you’re looking for a book that offers more than just a typical romance – one with depth, relatable characters, a unique sports backdrop, and an author who isn’t afraid to explore real insecurities – 'Icebreaker' by Hannah Grace is absolutely worth the hype. Trust me, it’s a book you’ll be thinking about long after you’ve turned the last page, especially with that satisfying epilogue!
