According to webMD insulin resistance is when cells in your muscles, fat and liver cannot properly use the hormone insulin

See cells in your body they don’t have calorie receptors but they do have hormone receptors

Insulin is what opens the cell up to allow nutrition to get in

The problem is today fiber has been removed from the diet and it causes insulin spikes

People are told to eat 3-6 meals a day and every 2-3 hours

And everytime you eat it causes a rise in blood sugar that causes the insulin to rise

When you increase insulin you decrease fat burning and you turn of the ability of the body and immune system for hours on end leaving you suseptible to other conditions and diseases

Symptoms of insulin resistance are

1. Waiste line over 40’ in men and 35” in women

2. Blood pressure readings of 130/80 or higher

3. Fasting glucose level over 100

4. Fasting triglyceride level over 150

5. HDL cholesterol under 40 for men and 50 for women

6. Skin tags

7. Patches of dark areas of skin in the folds of your neck underarms your knuckles

8. Blurred vision due to damage in the blood vessels of your eyes where it causes clotting because of all the back up of the sugar in the the blood stream because your cells are no longer listening to insulin

9. Frequent urination

10. Always thirsty dry mouth

11. PCOS

12. ED

These are just a couple of things that you can look for when you start to see this your blood sugars out of control your doctor will check your blood sugar but their not checking the insulin

It's like our body's cells, which need glucose (sugar) for energy, have a special doorbell. Insulin is the delivery person, and when it rings the doorbell (the insulin receptor), the cell's door (glucose channel) opens to let the glucose in. This is beautifully illustrated by the 'insulin key and lock' concept I've seen in diagrams – insulin is the key, and the receptor is the lock that opens the cell for glucose. But what happens with insulin resistance? Imagine the doorbell starts to malfunction, or the delivery person has to ring harder and harder to get the door open. Your body starts producing more and more insulin to try and get the same amount of glucose into your cells. This excess insulin, while trying to overcome resistance, can cause a cascade of other issues. One of the most visible signs, which often came up in my research and was a major 'aha!' moment for me, is the appearance of dark, velvety patches on the skin, especially around the neck, armpits, or knuckles. This condition, called acanthosis nigricans, is a direct result of high insulin levels stimulating skin cell growth. Similarly, those small, soft skin tags you might notice can also be a red flag for elevated insulin. It's incredible how our bodies try to signal us! Beyond these external signs, insulin resistance is a big deal because it's often a precursor to more serious conditions like type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, and even plays a role in PCOS, heart disease, and high blood pressure, as I learned from various health diagrams. It's not just about blood sugar; it's a systemic issue. So, what can we do? While it’s always best to consult a doctor, my personal journey has led me to focus on lifestyle changes. Thinking about an 'insulin resistance diet menu' isn't about deprivation but rather smart choices. Prioritizing whole, unprocessed foods rich in fiber – like vegetables, fruits, and legumes – helps stabilize blood sugar and reduces those sharp insulin spikes the article talks about. I also found that being mindful of meal timing, rather than constant snacking, can give your body a break and help reset insulin sensitivity. Regular movement, even just a daily walk, has been incredibly beneficial. It's about empowering your cells to listen to insulin again, letting that 'key' work smoothly. These simple shifts can make a huge difference in how you feel and your overall health!
