One of my favorite bars in Edinburgh, perfect for spooky season, horror lovers or just a great night out, Frankenstein Bier Keller is an experience you won’t forget.
Once a gothic church, this Frankenstein themed bar is now a three story bar, restaurant and beer hall. The entire menu, food and drinks, are themed and spooky. You will find live music, karaoke, and even nightclub vibes late at night.
Whether you’re starting a night out, celebrating with friends or just curious about one of Scotland’s quirkiest bars, this is a spot you won’t want to miss. Make sure to stick around until the monster himself makes an appearance.
Would you dare to spend a night out with Frankenstein’s monster?
... Read moreMy recent trip to Edinburgh led me to discover the incredible Frankenstein Bier Keller, and I just had to share my experience! If you're searching for something truly unique in Scotland, especially if you're a fan of all things spooky, this place is an absolute gem.
Walking in, you're immediately transported into a gothic laboratory. The atmosphere is just electric – quite literally, with those fantastic electric lightning effects I noticed on the walls, making it feel like Dr. Frankenstein himself is about to spark something to life! The decor is mind-blowing, from the Frankenstein-themed posters to the silhouettes of Frankenstein's monster strategically placed, creating a genuinely immersive environment. I was particularly fascinated by the sight of a full human skeleton suspended in a glowing, liquid-filled glass tube; it really amplified that spooky laboratory ambiance. It’s not just a bar; it’s an art installation dedicated to Mary Shelley’s masterpiece.
Beyond the incredible visuals, the menu itself is part of the fun. I tried one of their famed Monster Martinis, and not only was it delicious, but the presentation was spot-on with the theme. They also have a range of creative "Shooters" with equally spooky names, perfect for getting into the spirit of things. The food menu also follows suit, making dining there a complete thematic journey.
One of the absolute highlights, and something you must stick around for, is when the Frankenstein's monster figure comes to life. It's an incredible spectacle! You see the large Frankenstein's monster figure on a raised platform, bathed in eerie green and purple lights, moving and interacting. It truly felt like I was watching a scene from a classic horror film unfold right before my eyes. The bar staff really commit to the theme, too, adding to the overall theatrical experience.
It’s truly a three-story wonderland, evolving from a chill bar to a lively nightclub as the evening progresses. Whether you're looking for live music, karaoke, or just a place to soak in a fantastically spooky vibe, Frankenstein Bier Keller delivers. It’s more than just a pub; it’s a full-on theatrical, culinary, and social adventure that perfectly embodies the quirky and historic spirit of Edinburgh, making it a standout attraction when exploring Scotland.
So I’m both dying to go and absolutely terrified of it lol. But then I see the words karaoke and damn, fine. I’ll go…
