I tried cottage cheese cookie dough 🍪

Honest Review:

I’ve seen a TON of protein cookie dough recipes online that use cottage cheese. They all seemed too good to be true, so I had to give one a try.

Pros:

• Super easy to make!

• It is lower in sugar than normal cookie dough, but it still tastes very sweet. Adding sugar-free chocolate chips would make this recipe an even better option for those who are worried about their sugar intake.

• Good consistency/texture

Cons:

• It tastes a little different due to the sugar-free protein powder. It’s not bad, I’m just not very used to protein powders. I think the dough could use a little more vanilla extract to balance out the flavor.

• This is NOT low calorie by any means. I was not too happy to see the total for the entire bowl. But, keeping in mind that it’s divided up into servings, it’s not as awful. Less chocolate chips would help with this, too.

Obviously it’s not actual cookie dough. But, I’d give it 4/5 stars. It’s a great substitute, and I’m going to experiment with the recipe some more to get it to a 5/5.

The recipe I used:

• 16 oz. low-fat cottage cheese

• 1/4 c. honey

• 2 tsp. vanilla extract

• 2 1/2 scoops of protein powder (I used Orgain Vanilla Bean)

• 1 c. flour

• 1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Add the cottage cheese, honey, and vanilla to a blender. Blend until you have a creamy, smooth batter. Pour mixture into a small mixing bowl. Add in protein powder, and mix well. Add in flour, and mix well. Fold in chocolate chips.

I separated my cookie dough into 3 mugs and shared it with my family. It almost filled all 3 mugs to the top, and a mug gives us each a couple of servings. I kept my mug of cookie dough in the fridge for a few days, and I would reheat it in the microwave for about 20 seconds and eat some of it when I wanted a little something sweet. It kept well for a couple days, but if you keep it much longer than that the dough will start to dry out.
