Why I deleted insta. —> I’ve been off Instagram for about a year now. I miss it here and there bc I genuinely like posting pictures, not just of myself but my kids, my man, other things I simply like.
Am I going back ? —> No. I had people on there I no longer spoke to, random follows from people I didn’t even know and I felt like i wasn’t really in the moment.
I’m loving life without Instagram but am noticing that if you aren’t in the mix you won’t be thought of 💭. That’s not always a bad thing sometimes it’s the most peaceful 🤷🏽♀️
I no longer have instagram and Snapchat. I only have tiktok and Facebook for family and it has simply been my best decision 🫶🏽 if you don’t think those things serve you any purpose anymore then let go it’s okay. I’ve really been able to focus on my mental and spend more quality time. Then worrying about updating people I no longer speak to. And no who don’t even check in when you could really use a friend. #deleatedinsta#instagram#snapchat#shareyourthoughts#fyp#letgo
... Read moreWhen I first joined Instagram and Snapchat, it felt like such a fun way to share my life. I loved capturing moments, from everyday happenings to even those perfectly posed mirror selfies, and connecting with friends. It was exciting to see what everyone else was up to, and for a while, it genuinely felt like a vibrant community. But over time, something shifted. What started as lighthearted sharing slowly morphed into a subtle pressure to curate a perfect online persona. I found myself thinking about what to post, how it would look, and what reactions it would get, rather than simply enjoying the moment I was in.
That feeling of 'not really being in the moment' became a huge red flag for me. I realized that instead of being present, my mind was often preoccupied with documenting life for an audience, many of whom I barely knew anymore. The joy of sharing pictures, whether of myself, my kids, or just things I loved, started to diminish as it became tied to validation and comparison. I saw friends and acquaintances living seemingly perfect lives online, and even though I knew it wasn't the full picture, it was hard not to compare my own journey. This constant feed of curated perfection, especially when I was just 22 and trying to figure things out, became mentally exhausting.
The decision to hit that delete button wasn't an easy one. There was a fear of missing out, of being forgotten, and of losing touch with people. But the weight of constantly being 'on' and worrying about what others thought became heavier than the fear of leaving. So, almost a year ago, I made the leap. I deleted both Instagram and Snapchat, keeping only TikTok and Facebook for close family connections.
And honestly? It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my mental well-being. The initial withdrawal phase was real – I'd instinctively reach for my phone to scroll, only to remember the apps weren't there. But that quickly gave way to a profound sense of peace. I found myself with so much more time and mental energy. Instead of scrolling through endless feeds, I'm now truly present for my kids, my partner, and myself. I'm reading more, pursuing hobbies I'd neglected, and having deeper, more meaningful conversations with the people who are actually in my life.
It’s true what they say: if you’re not 'in the mix,' you might not be thought of as much. But I’ve learned that for me, that's not a bad thing at all. It’s given me the space to focus on genuine connections and what truly matters, rather than maintaining superficial ones. If you're feeling that same pull, that exhaustion from the endless scroll and the pressure to perform, know that it's absolutely okay to let go. There's a whole lot of peace and quality time waiting on the other side.
I recently deleted my IG, twitter, and Snapchat to focus on myself and school. I realized I was using it to “show off” what was going on in my life rather just living in the moment!!
Honestly, IG is so toxic. I’ve deactivated it for that reason alone. I feel like it’s so embarrassing posting on there - like you’re just fishing to be seen with no one even interacting with you. So many evil eyes and haters 😭
