Grandmother’s treasure
The two miniature tea cups, along with the beautiful plate came from my grandmother on my father‘s side. Her name was Mabel Cody. We used to joke “Mabel Mabel set the table… “She wasn’t able to have children and at the age of 40 adopted my father and his twin brother. She often told the story about how the pastor showed up at her porch in Iowa with two “babies and blankets” to deliver her and grandpa their children. It’s because of the wonderful gift of adoption that I am here today. I loved this grandmother. Mabel often read the Bible early in the morning out loud to my grandfather Thomas, who was quite deaf. When my little sister and I would spend at their home in Long Beach California—, we would sleep in late, and I would hear her each morning from my bed reading the Bible loudly to my grandpa… since he couldn’t hear well. I attribute my deep love for the Bible to Mabel to this day. After she passed away I found these few things of hers in a box. I have treasured them ever since. Do you have tea cups? #mygrandma🤍 #teacup #antiques #tea #sentimental
