DIY Ruffle Underskirt from Old Bedsheet Hack ✂️
I kept seeing these cute lightweight underskirts with ruffles online, but I couldn’t justify spending $26 on something I’d mostly wear under dresses—especially when I know I’d want multiple colors.
So I made my own using an old cotton bedsheet I already had!
I love wearing dresses, but I always run into the same problems—wrap dresses blowing open in the wind, slits being a little too high, or shorter dresses feeling a bit uncomfortable on their own. I don’t always want to wear leggings either, especially in the summer. This ended up being the perfect solution.
I cut the sheet into a simple A-line skirt, sewed the sides, then made a ruffle by gathering a long strip of fabric using a loose stitch. After attaching the ruffle to the bottom, I added an elastic waistband to finish it.
I did mess up at first and made the waistband too tight (definitely try it on before finishing 😅), but I fixed it by trimming the top and redoing the elastic. It ended up being a shorter skirt, but honestly, I love it even more for layering under shorter dresses.
It’s lightweight, breathable, and adds the cutest little detail peeking out underneath. And the best part—it cost me basically nothing.
Now I want to make one in every color 🤍
