Buckle up because this is my full apartment horror story.
First my toilet wasn’t flushing right. We thought it was a simple clog and tried to fix it ourselves. It flushed ONCE and then refused to flush again. It wasn’t even flushing clear water at that point.
I contacted maintenance the same day… no response.
Messaged again and they told me someone could come in two days.
TWO DAYS… while we literally had no working toilet.
Maintenance finally comes and can’t fix it. He says he’ll tell the landlord to bring in an actual plumber.
And then… we go TWO MORE DAYS with no update.
Two more days. No toilet. I’m losing my mind.
I finally say this is ridiculous and something needs to be done. They tell me a plumber will be out in—wait for it—two more days.
At this point I’m convinced this cannot be legal.
The day before the plumber comes, I’m sitting in my living room and hear the loudest “WOOSH.”
I run to the bathroom and there is sewage water all the way up to the rim.
And KEEP IN MIND… we haven’t even been using the toilet.
It was the upstairs neighbor’s sewage.
NOT EVEN OURS. Which somehow makes it feel 10x worse.
I call, email, text, everything, and finally get a response. He tells me, “If you can figure out the apartment number above you, I’ll tell them to stop using their water until tomorrow.”
I’m sorry… how are you the landlord and you don’t know who lives above me??
So I go upstairs, and NONE of the doors even have numbers on them. Like?? How am I supposed to know who’s who??
I tell him I couldn’t figure it out… and again, no response.
Then it happens AGAIN. Another huge woosh.
Except this time it overflows all over the bathroom floor.
I’m panicking, gagging, crying, throwing every towel I own on the ground.
Every 10 minutes for like two hours it kept overflowing.
The entire evening and the whole night I was ignored by the landlord while my bathroom was flooding with someone else’s sewage.
Plumber finally comes the next day and says it was a clog in the MAIN LINE.
So it wasn’t even our fault. At all.
