I decided to revisit Clecania as my start into 2025! The 8th book is coming out this year so it was the perfect time to get back into it!
I always tell people if you want to venture into alien romance but are worried the characters will be too alien, start with this series! The aliens are very human like for the most part. It’s a great series to ease your way into this sub-genre, and it’s one of my all time favorites!
... Read moreI totally get it – diving into alien romance can feel a bit daunting if you're picturing creatures that are completely foreign. That's exactly why I can't recommend Victoria Aveline's Clecanian Series enough, especially if you're new to the subgenre, just like I was when I first picked up 'Choosing Theo.' What initially drew me in, and what keeps me coming back, is how Aveline masterfully crafts her Clecanians. Yes, they’re aliens, with their own unique physiology and culture, but their emotions, their loyalty, and their understanding of love are incredibly relatable and, dare I say, profoundly human. You won't find yourself struggling to empathize with them; instead, you'll be rooting for them from page one.
For anyone hesitant, trust me, the Clecanian males, while powerful and possessive in the best alien-romance way, are so easy to connect with. They're protective, devoted, and their struggles with understanding human customs often lead to genuinely charming and heartwarming moments. It’s not just about the spice – which, by the way, is definitely there and tastefully done – but about the deep emotional connections and the journey each couple takes. Each story beautifully explores themes of cultural differences, acceptance, and finding your place, even across galaxies.
Speaking of journeys, the series generally follows a fated mates trope, which I absolutely adore. Each book focuses on a different couple, allowing you to get deeply invested in their individual stories while still enjoying the overarching narrative of the Clecanians integrating with humans. For instance, 'Freeing Luka' really explores themes of freedom and self-discovery, while 'Saving Veracco' has some fantastic tension and a truly heartwarming resolution. And if you're looking for something a bit different, 'Using Fejo' introduces a captivating dynamic with two women, which was a refreshing take within the series. Even 'Tempting Huzed' offers a unique twist on the hero's journey, making each installment feel fresh yet cohesive.
What I appreciate most about Victoria Aveline's writing is her ability to build a rich, immersive world without overwhelming you with jargon. The pacing is perfect, and you genuinely root for the characters. It's the kind of series where you finish one book and immediately want to pick up the next. My personal experience has been countless late nights, just telling myself "one more chapter" until suddenly it's 3 AM! It’s comforting, exciting, and just plain fun. This is why it’s consistently one of my top recommendations when friends ask for a good romance series. It truly eases you into the alien romance landscape, making you a fan before you even realize it. I'm already buzzing with excitement for the 8th book coming out this year, eager to revisit this incredible universe and see which Clecanian finds their mate next!
Welcome! Can’t wait to see more from you in the future💛
