Enchanted Castle Journal Inspo ✨🥀
I based this journal page on the original 1946 version of Beauty and the Beast 🥀 (I’ll post the other page tomorrow)
The Cocteau version so much better imo than the Disney versions—and explain more about why in the full episode (on my YT📺❤️)—but basically a lot of the behaviors that make me ick about the beast (and Belle too honestly) in the Disney version are non-existent in the original.
The beast is so reverent and giving and loving to Belle—not because household items told him to be—but because he is in genuine awe of her and just wants to make her happy 💗 He never raises his voice and is always respecting her boundaries as a lady.
She is treated poorly by her siblings and is unused to such catering and it’s this beautiful evolution of them healing things in each other that they weren’t responsible for breaking.
If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it so much 🖤 It’s a classic in black and white with some pretty dazzling practical effects long before CGI. What is your favorite fairy tale? #Lemon8Diary #lemon8diarychallenge #journal #journaling #Diary #beautyandthebeast #fantasybooks
After diving into the magic of the 1946 Beauty and the Beast for my journal page, I've been thinking a lot about why this film resonated so deeply and how we can bring that enchantment into our own creative spaces. It’s not just about watching a classic; it’s about letting it inspire transformation, both on paper and within ourselves. If you're like me and love adding visual elements to your journal, creating an 'enchanted castle' theme can be incredibly rewarding. I found that even simple sketches of towers, archways, or intricate windows can set the mood. For coloring, don't feel pressured to use bright, bold colors, especially if you're leaning into the black-and-white elegance of the Cocteau version. Think about using muted watercolors, sepia tones, or even just detailed pen work to capture that antique, magical feel. You could sketch out the Beast's enchanted castle, focusing on the mysterious atmosphere, or even draw a delicate rose that symbolizes Belle's journey. I often use a mix of pencils and fine-liners to give my castle drawings depth, playing with shadows to evoke that sense of ancient wonder. Remember, it's about capturing the feeling of the enchanted castle, not just its exact likeness. One of the most powerful aspects of the 1946 film, for me, is the Beast's ultimate transformation. Unlike some versions where it feels like a simple 'magic spell,' Cocteau's portrayal is so much more profound. It's not just about his physical change back to a prince; it's the culmination of his emotional journey, his genuine love and sacrifice for Belle. I interpret it as a deeper, internal transformation that Belle helps facilitate through her unwavering compassion. In my journal, I love to reflect on how true beauty isn't skin-deep, and how love can truly heal and transform. The finale isn't just a happy ending; it’s a testament to mutual respect and understanding. It encourages me to think about the 'beastly' parts of ourselves or situations in life, and how patience, empathy, and genuine connection can lead to truly magical changes. If you're looking for more journal inspo inspired by this timeless tale, try these prompts: What does 'true beauty' mean to you? How has a relationship (friendship, family, romantic) transformed you or helped you grow? What elements of an 'enchanted castle' would you love to see in your own life or journal? You could even dedicate a page to your favorite fairy tales and explore what lessons they offer. My own journaling journey with this theme has helped me appreciate the beauty in subtlety and the strength found in kindness. It’s a wonderful way to connect with classic literature and reflect on its enduring messages. Don't forget to incorporate little details like golden keys, magical mirrors, or even handwritten quotes from the film to make your journal truly unique and personal. It’s your own enchanted space, after all!
