The habits I had to break before I finally stopped feeling broke!!

7/29 Edited to

... Read moreOne of the biggest lessons I've learned in my financial journey is that success begins with intentional habits, not just luck or sudden windfalls. For a long time, I treated payday like a shopping spree—spending impulsively on coffee, beauty products, clothes on sale, and dining out. Although these small expenses felt harmless or even rewarding in the moment, they collectively drained my budget and kept me stuck feeling broke. What really changed my outlook was giving every dollar a job. Instead of letting money sit idle or spending it without thought, I started creating detailed budgets every paycheck. For example, I allocated funds specifically for an emergency fund, savings goals, and essential expenses, which helped me see exactly where my money was going. Adding to my savings right after payday helped me avoid the trap of waiting for “extra” money, which never seemed to come. I also faced the temptation of buying items just because they were on sale. Realizing that if I wasn’t already planning to buy something, a discount didn’t make it a necessity was eye-opening. It helped me stop unnecessary purchases and focus on true priorities. Another major shift was stopping the all-too-common “I’ll start next month” mentality. Delaying budgeting and saving only postponed my progress for months and even years. By committing to budgeting as soon as I was paid, I gradually built financial discipline. Breaking these habits allowed me to pay off over $35,000 in debt. Budgeting isn’t about restriction; it’s about control and freedom. For anyone feeling overwhelmed, start small—track your spending, set realistic goals, and give your money purpose. Over time, you’ll find that financial peace is possible when you break old money habits and embrace new, intentional ones.
