Lincoln Castles West Gate
The west gate to Lincoln Castle was built in 1068 by Williams the Conqueror. Although the main entrance to the castle is the east gate, the west gate is still of historical importance as it was built on the site of the Roman east entrance to the city of Lindum Collonia.
The west gate was rebuilt in the 1230s, but for the security of the castle, after many sieges, it was sealed to prevent an invasion of the castle. It was reopened in 1992.
