A Prayer for When You Want to Live a More Exciting Life ~ Philippians 4:12 (KJV)

“Another day, another dollar.”

But also: another day of doing almost the same things as yesterday. And those are things you don’t really enjoy that much (or at least not as much as you used to). Maybe you’re like us and often find yourself thinking, “I wish I could live a more exciting life.”

Yep! Been there…probably will be there tomorrow, too.

God is a God of adventure and creativity, and he desires for us to discover purpose and experience the good life he offers. But he also helps us decipher when we’ve bought into lies about what the “exciting life” is supposed to look like, and he wants to free us from unhealthy expectations that lead to discontentment.

Sooooo…when we need a reset for what it means to live the exciting life, here’s what we’ve been praying lately:

This scripture reminds me that contentment isn't dependent on external circumstances, but on the attitude we cultivate through faith. Whether in times of abundance or need, learning to embrace each moment with trust in God’s plan can bring a surprising sense of excitement and peace. From my own experience, praying with this mindset has been transformative. Instead of longing for drastic changes or adventure, I find joy in seeing God’s presence in simple, everyday tasks. This prayer for discernment helps reset my expectations, freeing me from the lie that an exciting life must look a certain way or be filled with extraordinary events. Instead, excitement can come from trusting God’s creativity and purpose unfolding in my current situation. The included prayer—asking God the 'Mountain-maker' and 'Ocean-tamer' to open our eyes to purpose in routine—has been especially powerful. It helps settle any restlessness and invites me to find contentment through Christ’s strength, echoing Philippians 4:13. In doing so, I've noticed a shift in perspective: each day becomes an opportunity to experience God’s goodness anew, making even ordinary moments meaningful. This approach encourages reflection on what truly makes life exciting. It’s not always external adventure but internal transformation and growth. By engaging in this prayer and scripture meditation, others might also find themselves encouraged to embrace their unique journey, appreciate small victories, and live with renewed hope and enthusiasm for what lies ahead.
