FOLLOW MY JB itinerary 🚶‍♂️

p1 : grandma’s tea

if you have tasted china 阿嬷手作 in china and craving for one, you can definitely give this a try. fresh chewy mochi and yam paste paired with matcha or milk tea. ice cream gelato

p2: minus.onecoffee

jb home based cafe, they served high quality coffee and matcha with affordable prices. definitely have to try their earl grey matcha with oreo! check their ig out for more information

p3: bakeries

the starter cafe - a place i always go for my sourdough bread supplies, more than 15 flavours to choose from, they also sell cafe food with their signature sourdough and sourdough pizza

b&b bakery - only selling shiopan bread but with huge varieties such as mentaiko, pistachio, garlic butter, taro, pandan coffee and even nian gao

p4: triplex salon 💇‍♀️

chanced upon the promo rm199 hair colour + treatment at any length and decided to give it a try. didn’t disappoint and results was promising. overall a good place and i would definitely go back again

p5: knocknock cafe

cafe located at mount austin industrial area. selling western fusion food, a vintage retro cool vibes, pretty decent food. we ordered the tomato soup, pasta and their quesadillas.

p6: dim sum

breakfast spot at austin crest but can give it a missed.

it was crowded when we went there but got our seats fast, however the food took super long to come. the dimsum was average and there’s definitely better ones around that area

p7: ondo bakery

another newly open bakery selling japanese buns, pastries, cakes and snacks. their bread were soft and chewy, also sell coffee and tea to pair with their bread

p8: night market

chance upon this market that will be open till 7/6 behind austin height water front. selling local street food, drinks, and mochi dessert. there was also a live performance and tables at the back for you to eat and enjoy.

p9: activities

other activities were watching a movie (highly recommended to watch colony) even bf approved.

and groceries run at jaya grocer (usually i bought back oats and coffee)

... Read moreIf you’re planning to explore Johor Bahru and want an authentic taste of the local lifestyle, I highly recommend taking the time to visit some of the hidden gems highlighted in this itinerary. Starting with Grandma’s Tea, the fresh chewy mochi and yam paste paired with matcha or milk tea bring a delightful twist to traditional Chinese desserts. The creamy gelato also adds a cooling balance on hot days. Having tried similar mochi desserts in China before, I was pleasantly surprised to find such quality here in JB. Minus.OneCoffee, a charming home-based cafe, offers great value for premium coffee and matcha drinks. Their Earl Grey matcha with Oreo is a unique flavor combination — if you’re a fan of creative drinks, it’s a must-try! Checking their Instagram beforehand helps to confirm their operating hours and special promotions. For bakery lovers, The Starter Cafe is a go-to spot for sourdough breads with over 15 flavor options and even sourdough pizzas. On the other hand, B&B Bakery specializes in shiopan bread with exciting fillings like mentaiko and pistachio, which were new and delicious to me. Ondo Bakery’s Japanese buns and pastries are great for a soft, chewy treat accompanied by freshly brewed coffee or tea. If you want to pamper yourself during your trip, consider visiting Triplex Salon in Bandar Jaya Putra. The RM199 hair color and treatment promo offers excellent results at a reasonable price, and the salon ambiance is spacious and welcoming. For a casual meal, Knocknock Cafe in Mount Austin delivers retro vibes paired with western fusion dishes. The tomato soup and pasta make a comforting combination, although visiting outside of peak hours helps avoid crowds. While the dim sum spot in Austin Crest was crowded and the food was just average, this is a helpful reminder to explore other dim sum places in JB with faster service and tastier offerings. Don’t miss the lively night market behind Austin Height Water Front, where local street food, drinks, and mochi desserts create an enjoyable atmosphere, especially with live performances. It’s perfect for a casual evening outing. To balance food adventures, I also took time for some leisure like watching the movie “Colony” — which comes highly recommended — and a grocery run at Jaya Grocer, a reliable place for essentials like oats and coffee. This itinerary combines well-known spots with local favorites to give you a rounded experience of Johor Bahru’s vibrant food scene and lifestyle. Remember, planning visits around opening hours and possible promos can enhance your trip further.
