🇹🇼 The World's First Museum Brary Opens in Taichung, Taiwan
Have you heard of Museum Brary? Museum Brary is a new form of cultural space that combines a museum and a library. The world s first Museum Brary opened in December 2025 in Taichung, Taiwan.
SANAA, the architectural firm of Japanese contemporary architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, was in charge of the design of the Museum Brally. When Ryue Nishizawa was young, he felt sorry that he could not learn the knowledge contained in the museum while looking at the museum s exhibitions. Based on that memory, Museum Brally was born, where the museum and the library coexist.
The Museum Brary consists of eight buildings of different sizes and heights. Each building is connected by a bridge, allowing visitors to move freely between all the spaces. The exterior is covered with aluminum mesh, and the eight buildings are intended to look like one big cloud.
Museum Brary is located in Taichung Central Park. As the name "Taichung Green Museumbrary" suggests, we aimed to create a space that integrates with nature.
Part of the building is raised from the ground, allowing the wind from the park to circulate naturally. This provides a place for citizens to stay out of the heat and reduces the use of cooling energy during the day. At the rooftop garden Culture Forest, you can enjoy the scenery of Taichung City with Taiwanese osmanthus.
Currently, Museum Brahly is holding an exhibition commemorating the opening of the museum. This exhibition features works by Arne Jacobsen from Denmark, Yang Hye-gyu from South Korea, and Michael Lin from Taichung. The exhibition runs until April 12, 2026.
