ถ้าใครกำลังหา “หนังสืบคดี/หนังสือคดีฆาตกรรม” ที่อ่านง่ายแต่ลุ้นจริง ๆ คดีฆาตกรรมสิบคนบาป เป็นเล่มที่เหมาะมาก โดยเฉพาะคนที่เคยอ่านหรือเคยได้ยิน “จนศพสุดท้าย” (And Then There Were None) มาก่อน เพราะเล่มนี้ตั้งใจเล่นกับความคุ้นเคยของคนอ่านแบบตรงไปตรงมา แต่ไม่ใช่การก็อปทั้งดุ้นนะ จุดที่ทำให้สนุกคือผู้เขียนเอาโครงที่เราคิดว่าเดาได้ มาหักมุมด้วย “บริบทของละครเวที” และความเป็นนักเรียนในชมรมการแสดง พล็อตหลักคือชมรมการแสดงต้องจัดละครในโอกาสสำคัญของโรงเรียน และเลือกหยิบเรื่องจนศพสุดท้ายมาเล่นบนเวที ช่วงแรกจะให้ฟีลเหมือนกำลังดูทีมงานเตรียมการ ซ้อมบท จัดฉาก จัดคิวขึ้นลงเวที แต่พอการแสดงเริ่มไปได้สักพัก ความผิดปกติก็เกิดขึ้นแบบชวนขนลุก เพราะมันไม่ใช่แค่ “แสดง” อีกต่อไป การวางยาพิษและการตายเกิดขึ้นจริง ทำให้บรรยากาศมันก้ำกึ่งมาก ๆ ระหว่างโลกของละครกับโลกความจริง สิ่งที่ชอบคือการใช้ “เวที/ม่าน/ฉาก” เป็นองค์ประกอบของการสืบสวนแบบมีลูกเล่น เหมือนคนเขียนตั้งใจให้คนอ่านตั้งคำถามไปเรื่อย ๆ ว่าเหตุการณ์ไหนเป็นอุบัติเหตุ เหตุการณ์ไหนเป็นการจัดฉาก และใครได้ประโยชน์จากการทำให้ทุกอย่างดูเหมือนอยู่ในบทละคร ยิ่งถ้าคุณชอบงานที่มีความเป็น “คดีฆาตกรรมแบบกลุ่ม” (คล้ายสิบคดีบาปตามที่หลายคนเรียกติดปาก) จะยิ่งติด เพราะตัวละครหลายคนอยู่ในพื้นที่เดียวกัน มีแรงจูงใจและความลับคนละแบบ ทำให้วงผู้ต้องสงสัยกว้างมาก อ่านยังไงให้สนุกขึ้น (แบบไม่สปอยล์): 1) ลองจดว่าใครอยู่ตรงไหนในช่วงที่มีเหตุการณ์ เพราะนิยายแนวนี้ชอบเล่นกับ “จังหวะ” และ “ช่องว่าง” ระหว่างฉาก 2) อย่าเชื่อความรู้สึกแรกว่ารู้ลำดับการตายแล้วจะเดาง่าย—เล่มนี้สนุกตรงที่มันทำให้เราคิดว่า ‘รู้อยู่แล้ว’ แต่พอถึงจุดเฉลยกลับรู้สึกว่าพลาดอะไรไป 3) สังเกตรายละเอียดเกี่ยวกับอุปกรณ์การแสดง/ฉาก/ม่าน เพราะมันอาจเป็นกุญแจสำคัญของคดี โดยรวมถ้าคุณเสพนิยายสืบสวนเพื่อ “ความพีค” มากกว่าความซับซ้อนเชิงเทคนิค เล่มนี้ตอบโจทย์มาก อ่านลื่น ติดมือ และจบแล้วอยากกลับไปไล่ดูว่าเราพลาดคำใบ้อะไรไปบ้าง เหมาะทั้งคนที่ชอบจนศพสุดท้ายและคนที่อยากลองแนวคดีฆาตกรรมที่เล่าใหม่ผ่านเวทีละคร
