Gospel for today: Luke 11:14-23
Gospel for today according to Saint Luke
Luke 11:14-23
Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute,
and when the demon had gone out,
the mute man spoke and the crowds were amazed.
Some of them said, "By the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons,
he drives out demons."
Others, to test him, asked him for a sign from heaven.
But he knew their thoughts and said to them,
"Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste
and house will fall against house.
And if Satan is divided against himself,
how will his kingdom stand?
For you say that it is by Beelzebul that I drive out demons.
If I, then, drive out demons by Beelzebul,
by whom do your own people drive them out?
Therefore they will be your judges.
But if it is by the finger of God that I drive out demons,
then the Kingdom of God has come upon you.
When a strong man fully armed guards his palace,
his possessions are safe.
But when one stronger than he attacks and overcomes him,
he takes away the armor on which he relied
and distributes the spoils.
Whoever is not with me is against me,
and whoever does not gather with me scatters."

In Luke 11:14-23, Jesus illustrates a crucial lesson about the nature of His ministry and the Kingdom of God. This passage, where Jesus casts out a mute demon, serves as a powerful testament to His authority over evil. The Pharisees, skeptical of Jesus' powers, attributing His actions to Beelzebul, the prince of demons, reflect a broader theme of spiritual blindness and rejection of divine truth. Jesus' reply emphasizes the impossibility of Satan casting out Satan, reinforcing that His works affirm God's sovereignty. This narrative is not just a historical account; it invites readers to reflect on their stance towards Christ. Are we open to His influence in our lives? Furthermore, Jesus' declaration that 'whoever is not with me is against me' calls for a decisive commitment to faith. Theological scholars often debate the implications of this verse for understanding the nature of spiritual allegiance and its ramifications for one's eternal destiny. For modern believers, reflecting on this confrontation with evil can inspire a deeper faith and a commitment to share the Gospel. Engaging with these Scriptures during Lent encourages a renewed focus on our personal faith journey and a commitment to spreading the good news within our communities. Join discussions and reflections online to deepen your understanding of faith. Consider sharing your thoughts and experiences related to today's Gospel, and bear witness to how the words of Jesus shape your daily life. By fostering a spirit of community, we can collectively grow in understanding and application of these Biblical principles.
