Mark 3:13-19

Gospel for today according to Mark

Mark 3:13-19

Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted

and they came to him.

He appointed Twelve, whom he also named Apostles,

that they might be with him

and he might send them forth to preach

and to have authority to drive out demons:

He appointed the Twelve:

Simon, whom he named Peter;

James, son of Zebedee,

and John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges,

that is, sons of thunder;

Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew,

Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus;

Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean,

and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.

... Read moreReflecting on Mark 3:13-19, it's inspiring to consider how Jesus personally chose each of His twelve apostles to accompany Him and carry out His mission. This passage highlights not only the selection but also the empowerment of these men to preach and perform miracles, including driving out demons. From my personal experience, reading this scripture reminds me of the importance of being called and equipped for a purpose greater than oneself. The apostles represent diverse backgrounds and personalities, yet they were unified in their mission. For example, Simon Peter, known as the rock, was given a new name signifying his key role. James and John, the 'sons of thunder,' display how zeal and passion can be directed toward spiritual goals. Even Judas Iscariot, whose betrayal had profound consequences, was part of this divine plan. This teaches that everyone included in God’s plan has a role that contributes to the broader picture, whether we understand it immediately or only in hindsight. Additionally, Jesus appointing the apostles on a mountain underscores the spiritual significance of this moment, reminiscent of other biblical mountaintop encounters where divine revelation occurs. For modern readers, this passage encourages us to seek God’s calling and trust that He equips us with what we need. It also reminds us that discipleship involves not only following Christ but being sent forth to actively share the gospel and confront spiritual challenges. Engaging with this scripture can renew one’s commitment to living a purpose-driven life centered on faith and service.

Handwritten notes in a spiral notebook detail Revelation 13, describing a beast rising from the sea with multiple heads and horns, receiving power from a dragon. It also describes a second beast emerging from the earth, performing miracles, and demanding worship, with some text highlighted in pink.
Handwritten notes continue describing the second beast deceiving people with miracles, ordering a statue of the first beast, and introducing a mark on the hand or forehead without which no one can buy or sell. The number 666 is mentioned, with pink checkered tape and a bow sticker.
Handwritten notes from a Bible study titled 'Revelation 13 Bible Study 2-17-24' discuss the first beast as symbolizing the antichrist, a false messiah who will unite the world and control the economy. It also mentions the second beast gaining influence through signs and wonders.
