"Yakuo-in Temple" stands on the hillside of Mt. Takao, where nature and history are alive, about an hour by train from the city center.

The long-nosed big tengu and the sharp-eyed crow tengu have their own meanings and watch over the worshipers.

「高尾山＝天狗」と聞いていたものの、実際に薬王院で大天狗・烏天狗の像を目の前にすると想像以上に迫力がありました。特に烏天狗は鋭い目つきと嘴、構えた剣の緊張感が強くて、ただ写真を撮るだけじゃなく「見守られている」感じが残ります。反対に大天狗は長い鼻と羽団扇が印象的で、どっしりした守護の雰囲気。天狗像を見比べるだけでも、高尾山がスピリチュアルと言われる理由の一つが体感できます。 私がよかったと思う回り方は、「天狗像→本堂（お参り）→境内の気になるスポット→少しだけ山の自然を歩く」の流れ。山の中腹にあるので、参拝だけでも気分が切り替わりますが、少し歩いて呼吸が深くなると“整う”感覚が強まりました。時間に余裕があれば、最後に高尾山頂を目指すのもおすすめです。山頂の標識（599.15m）を見ると達成感があって、気持ちも前向きになりました。 スピリチュアル目的で行くなら、意識したいのは「お願いを詰め込みすぎない」こと。私は最初に本堂で挨拶してから、縁結びや六根清浄石などをゆっくり回りました。境内は見どころが多いので、焦って全部やろうとすると逆に疲れます。気になった場所で立ち止まり、静かに手を合わせるだけでも十分でした。 写真を撮るポイントとしては、天狗像は背景に緑が入る角度が雰囲気が出やすいです。朱色の社殿と天狗像が一緒に入る場所も「高尾山薬王院らしさ」が出て記念になります。人が多い日は、朝早めに行くと落ち着いて参拝しやすかったです。 最後に小ネタですが、境内で見かけた石像がニット帽とマスク姿になっていて、思わず二度見しました。厳かな空気の中に、こういう“日常の一コマ”があるのも高尾山の魅力。天狗伝説の神秘さと、今の空気感が同居していて、また季節を変えて行きたくなる場所でした。
