My Japanese learning journey!😁🥳

1 week agoEdited to

... Read moreLearning Japanese has been an incredibly rewarding experience, especially as someone passionate about Japan and its culture. One of the most challenging yet fulfilling parts of my journey has been mastering Kanji. I make it a point to write at least five Kanji characters every day, which helps reinforce my memory and recognition. For example, practicing characters like きます (kimasu - I'm coming) and ただいま (tadaima - I'm back) has become part of my daily routine. Additionally, I focus on writing full Hiragana characters and combining them into words to build more confidence. Words like からだ (karada - body) and みず (mizu - water) often come up, so I integrate them into my practice. I also use a self-created lesson plan with vocabulary goals like writing ten words a day, steadily improving my retention. Listening practice is equally important. I dedicate at least two hours daily to listening to Japanese—whether on my commute, lunch break, or relaxing at home watching anime. This constant exposure not only improves my comprehension but also familiarizes me with natural speech patterns, intonation, and common expressions such as すみません (sumimasen - excuse me/sorry) and どうぞ (douzo - please go ahead). Writing, reading, and listening go hand in hand. Incorporating Katakana and frequently used phrases into my practice makes learning more holistic. For example, understanding onomatopoeia or modifier words deepens my grasp of nuances in Japanese. My personal advice to fellow learners is to create a consistent but flexible study routine, blend different types of practice to keep motivation high, and immerse yourself in the culture through media and interaction with native speakers whenever possible. This approach will build not just knowledge but a genuine connection with the language.
