My favorite FREE apps to learn Japanese!

I have been studying and learning Japanese since last year, just as a hobby and because i really love the Japanese language and culture! I've been using these apps a long the way and would definitely recommend them to learn Japanese, they are super helpful and easy to work with.

All these apps are FREE for iOS, so no need to pay to learn Japanese! Of course, you're only need to pay for iTalki if you've found a teach you'd like to learn from. You can see how much the lessons are per teacher and if it's something in your budget!

Here are the mentioned apps:

✻ iTalki

✻ MARU: Learn Japanese Hiragana

✻ Hiragana Memory Hint

✻ Katakana Memory Hint

Happy learning! <3

... Read moreLearning a new language like Japanese can feel daunting, but honestly, with the right tools, it's an incredibly rewarding journey! I've been exploring various resources, and I wanted to dive a bit deeper into how I integrate my favorite apps into my study routine, especially for those looking for genuinely helpful *free Japanese learning apps*. It’s amazing what you can accomplish without spending a fortune. Let’s talk more about iTalki, which, while lessons cost money, offers significant value and a fantastic *online platform for finding language teachers*. My experience with italki teacher search has been really positive. You can filter teachers by budget, availability, and even what they specialize in – whether it's conversational practice or more structured Japanese lessons. I always recommend checking out their free trials; it’s a perfect way to see if a teacher's style clicks with you before committing. The italki app interface makes booking and managing italki japanese lesson online incredibly smooth. I've found that having one-on-one sessions, even occasionally, massively boosts my confidence and speaking skills. It’s like having a personalized guide for your language journey! Looking at italki app screenshots or a quick demo shows just how intuitive it is to connect with native speakers. Mastering Hiragana and Katakana is foundational, and the "Memory Hint" series (Hiragana Memory Hint and Katakana Memory Hint) are absolute lifesavers. These apps use clever memory games and mnemonics to help you remember characters quickly. I combine them with MARU: Learn Japanese Hiragana, which offers clear Hiragana chart presentations and vocabulary drills. My tip? Practice writing them out by hand after using the apps. It really cements the characters in your brain. Don't rush this stage; a solid foundation makes everything else so much easier. The visual cues and repetition these apps provide are fantastic for remembering characters. Beyond these, I've also dabbled with other free resources to round out my learning. For grammar, the Bunpo app offers structured lessons and quizzes that have been incredibly helpful. While some features are premium, the free content is substantial for understanding basic grammar points. For listening practice and expanding my vocabulary, I sometimes use the Japanesepod101 mobile app. They have a lot of free audio lessons and accompanying notes that are great for passive learning during my commute. Although the renshuu japanese learning app wasn't my primary, I've heard good things about its spaced repetition system for vocabulary and kanji, which can be useful for drilling. When looking for the best app to learn Japanese free, think about what skill you want to focus on. Some apps are great for characters, others for grammar, and some for speaking practice. It's often best to use a combination! I've found that consistency is key. Even 15-20 minutes a day on an app can make a huge difference over time. Don't be afraid to try different apps, view their app interface screenshots, and see which ones resonate with your learning style. Happy learning, everyone!
